Hi all.. I have a optimus no11 stove , I found a small hole on the burner tube ..(see photo) Who can explain this small hole on the tube.. Thanks!
Steelman, I too have noticed that small hole, and I think the reason is that that tube does nothing. It is just there as a support, rather like the 111b burner. My thought is that it is a sealed tube, and without the small hole there would be nowhere for the expanded hot air to go when it gets hot. In fact, the burner is more like a 111b than a 111. Perhaps Optimus improved the burner for kero when they moved onto the 111. Somebody probably knows more.
Hi Steelman, I am not familiar with the burner on an Op.11. Is this a working tube? Does it carry fuel? Or is is it an empty construction tube just there to help keep the vaporiser in place? Does the burner still operate? The hole is very regular and seem to have been made with a tool, perhaps a drill-bit. Best Regards Kerophile.
I rekon the hole is there to make brazing the joint possible and easy. Ever tried to weld a air tight container??? The hot air will bubble out from the joint as you weld. And you go Arrrhhh f#n stinking thing!!!! or something like that. My theory and I'm sticking to it. Barra not like I'd do somthing silly like.....Tha...at.
Hi again.. Today i check another optimus no11 stove..it also have small hole, but the location not same . burner working very well ,it's very powerful..
Barra, I think you're right, that tube is air tight without the hole. It's only there to support the burner.
Holey Burners Steelman ! sorry, couldn't resist I'll get me coat. My money is with Barra & Gordon, those tubes are only there to support the burner and the hole is to allow hot air escape, nothing to worry about obviously as that burner is producing a very impressive Cherry Red flame.
I don't get it. Looking at the burner again. Every thing looks normal except the feed tube from the tank appears to go to the top of the burner. Why has it got the other feed tube going to a threaded joint?? Is it fed from underneath as well?? Or just plauuged off? interesting. Thansk Barra
Correct. The fuel line then continues across to the centre of the burner plate, takes a 90° left hand turn to the feed tube opposite the spindle and tube with the hole in it, down this tube and up through the jet. At least, that's how I see it. The tube with the hole and the 4th tube, to the right of the spindle, I think are not part of the fuel line. Phew !
Good Morning, Brother Chen, I must compliment you on the quality of your photos, your refurbishing, and the lovely paint job you show on your stoves!! Very well done, my Friend!! Do you do the painting yourself, or send it to someone else to do it? What paint was used for this Optimus 11, if I may ask? I love the color! It's a true pleasure so see what you and your friends are doing over in Taiwan! Thanks, very much, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Hi Doc my friend.. many thanks!! The optimus no 11 stove.. is not do myself to paint .. It comes from a good business .. Good coating and Beautiful color...i love it! Best Regards
Because the #11 burns petrol (white gas or Coleman fuel) it does not need all the preheat of a regular kero burner to vapourize the fuel thus the single feed tube. lance
