I notice loads of stoves go though ebay with a brass bracket to fasten to a bicycle frame soldred on the tank . Thay all seem to look the same were the brackets sold as a after market item or something used by the trade and modifed ?. Cliff
Hi Cliff, Known as "Terry Clips" - do a search on this and you should come up with some info. Also I recall the recent excellent thread about the senior Irish cycling enthusiasts made a reference to them as well. BTW - I checked my Radius 21 last night - you'd be good to go with a 210/00 flame ring.
Here you go Cliff . . .Terry clip . . not made of brass though, and doesn't fit to a bike unless it has a circular cross bar.
I've a couple of stoves with these fitted - not the Terry-clip things, but a more substantial set-up altogether. I seem to recall someone (kaw550red - Bryan Miller?) referring to these as 'shipyard clips' because that was where a lot of them were made-up during teabreaks and lunchtimes etc. Mine are soldered permanently to the stoves and will fit only the small diameter, round tubing typical of 1940s - 50s bicycle frames...
Cliff what you might be refering to was a solid brass clip made by a company called Camptors which was really the camping club of Great Btitain. It was a good quality brass clip but wasn't on the market for too long. It had to be soldered to the side of your stove. A lot of cyclists who worked in the shipyards and foundries of UK used to make a copy of this clip but in my opinion the terry clip made of spring steel was superior and could be moved from stove to stove. There was also a clip made by a company called Dunnes, it fixed to the handlebars of your bike and held the stove in place by holding the leg bracket, never fancied this as I thought it would put too much strain on the leg.
