Welcome to the Halloween/Guy Fawkes Frankenstove Photoshoot!

The idea is to post pictures of:
    a really terrifying Frankenstove,
a Frankenstove that you rebirthed from a monster to an angel,
or, an angel that (oops) you made into a monster, intentional or otherwise.

For those whose cultural traditions involving the burning of effigies of a certain religious/political extremist and explosives expert (Guy Fawkes), you are welcome to light up a bunch of stoves and share some photos of them merrily burning.

Or, do it all! It's all about having fun with fire!

I have two entries. I'm saving the true monster for the very end. Here's my monster into angel entry painted in traditional Halloween colors of black and orange:

But, then, with some of that Halloween Magic™ and a wave of my Magic Wand (no! not that wand!), this horrible monster is transformed into:

    1228253518-IMGP7083.jpg 1228253525-IMGP7086.jpg 1228253533-IMGP7092.jpg 1228253543-IMGP7107.jpg

So, there you have it. Come on out and share your favorites in whichever category or combination of categories you like!

    Cheers,
    Gary

Well Done! I remember seeing that stove for sale and thinking somebody was a real son of a gun for doing that to a 45! Nice job bringing it back. It's beautiful, and runs like a Champ.

    Best,
    Al

    Happy Halloween.  :D/

Hi Gary, I don't think I have ever seen an Optimus No.45 like that model, even after you have made such a great fettle!
I appears to have the thick riser tube of a No.100, lipstick vaporiser, model stove, and the filler cap (reserve cap parking place) would accomodate the reserve cap of that model of stove.

    Lovely stove,
    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

It's an awsome transformation, there, Gary. Again, better than the factory condition, I must say. As Kerophile pointed out, your sepecimen has a unique combination of parts. I like it better than the usual setup. Did Primus actually make 45 in that set up? Anyone?

Hi, Keeping with the Optimus No.45 theme for the time being, here are some photos of a Op.45L. I bought some time ago.

I purchased this Op 45L, as a tin box, tank and one leg only.

    1225473046-S227.-Op.45-as-recd.-1.jpg

I had most of the required parts but without the riser tube I could not have restored the stove. Here are some photographs of the stove operating:

    1225473149-S227.-Op.45-as-recd.-4.jpg 1225473122-S227.-Op.45-as-recd.-3.jpg

Doug Weise made the great riser-tube.

The stove had no difficulty passing the Kerophile "Tea Test"

    1225473223-S227.-Op.45-as-recd.-6.jpg

I believe this stove dates from the 1970s, based on the location of the air-release screw on the side of the fuel nozzle.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile

    Monitor Regal bought for 99p
Part of the priming system was missing and the syringe was gone so the fettle was to get it going again not to restore it to original.

The cost to restore £0 Just my time. The spirit cup was one I had kicking around and the seals I made.

It still needs some elbow grease to give it a good shine.

OK, Not a stove being fettled, but a stove tin.

Here's the tin from a very early Optimus 00 that I recently accquired - I decided the tin was in more urgent need of TLC than the stove itself.

    Before:

    After:

    1225701774-PB020127_opt.jpg 1225701792-PB020128_opt.jpg

As if by magic, Pyramids and Palms appear:

    1225701816-PB020129_opt.jpg

Unfortunately you can never recover the full graphics and a lot of the colour intensity has been lost. But the tin is now safe from further ravages of rust and I can now look at the stove itself when I get time.

A nice fettle indeed Graham. How did you get the tin looking so good again, and have you done anything in particular to preserve it, if i may ask? It is an impressive before and after !

    Hi Alan,

I use Hammerite rust removal gel. Note this is specifically rust removal rather than a rust converter/stabiliser that tend to stain any remaining paintwork. Other brands may well work, but I find the Hammerite gel is good firstly because it doesn't run too much so you can use it on vertical surfaces, and secondly it doesn't touch any remaining paint.

You need to follow the instructions and several attempts may be required to get the required results as you obviously can't use anything abrasive or you'll lose any paintwork that is lurking under the rust. It's a delicate balance between getting rid of the rust and retaining the paint.

Note that as this doesn't covert the rust it'll come back almost immediately. Don't even blink before spraying with a clear lacquer as I have done in this case

Maybe Grahams tips for conserving tins should be promoted to the Fettling Forum? The end result is certainly impressive.

Hmm I went the other way.

Take 1 Nova new out of box....

Side veiw of finished stove after.
    1225794638-sideveiw.jpg

    With the burner taken out.
    1225795204-flutes.jpg
Around nipple seat beefed up and flutes added to the "fins"
Outter "cup" raised about 5mm and palte level with top.
Nipple re-mastered to 11-12 thou and countersunk

    Nother shot.
    1225795297-finishedburner.jpg
The sides of the feet filed flat to take off the only sharpness the grips had when it came and filed on the inside of the curve for a "real" pot holding.
Note outter bowl has been bashed down to allow a decent flame to pot distance.

    Flat out
    1225795473-Flatout.jpg

    Simmer
    1225795400-simmer.jpg
Boils 1 litre in about 6 minutes.

After many test runs it is consistant and DON'T SMELL no more...well maybe for a minute or 2 till it gets up full steam..
The pot is clean as a babies bum in all ranges on kero or Av tur.

Burns Deisel blue with yellow tips but don't stink and pot is still clean but don't like to be turned down too much. Will do in a pinch...Don't know how long it will go without clogging with deisel but made a wire to clean out the feed tube if needed.

Seen here cooking my T on in a coleman oven.
    1225795618-bakingT.jpg

Which turnd out all right I reckon.

    1225795694-Tea.jpg
(wife likes the color any way. needed a clean up as it was starting to rust a bit and getting ratty.

    Hope you liked the pics

    Barra

Ohh it has a puttery noise and IS louder than it was..I did put some flutes up the top of the burner bell on the "fins" to bring'em up a bit more but the silver soleder maelted and I flicked it all out with a bit of wire while going flat bikki ](*,) ](*,) Maybe next time.

Now some Bar$+@&ds gunna say all you needed to do was.....    :D
    Stoves who'd have'em?
