British Army Number 12 cookset ,

I brought From Ebay last week , It needed a "buyer beware" notice really .

I didnt get the one in the picture ,
    The burner position was bent,
I thought the spindle and pricker were knackerd but turned out to be a optimus spindle with a TOC pricker ,
    The NRV was solid,
The tank was filled with something that smelled like nail varnish remover ?, goppin stuff.

After playing my face to the seller I got a load of the cash back so it worked out OK in the end .

Meanwhile back at the stove :D ,
Love it , seems to run better on a optimus multi fuel nozzle then the original .
it hasnt done a lot the date on the tin is 2004
and the burner came clean very fast .
The tin is very well made in stainless Steel .

The Number 12 I repaired for my mate was dated 1997 this ones 2004 so they are still making the at TOC for the Army.

Great stoves, and the stainless steel pan designed for the No2 stove fit a treat :)

    Hey Twodogs,
Nice fettle on the No12! Have a similar story myself, cheap ebay purchase, when I checked it over, found spindle had no teeth left on it, all inside the burner, and the pricker needle was lodged inside the jet. Used the parts from a 111 service kit. Done the job nicely!
    Regards
    Paul

Where is the TOC no12 date marked ? I can't see anything obvious on mine.
I have to agree though they are a brilliant stove but now yours is all so clean don't you feel guilty firing it up

I bought a pan set from this e-bayer. It was ok but not as good as the one in the pic.

Hi Cliff, My number 12 came to me with some problems even though it had never been fired! Same issue with the burner not sitting central but luckily the pipework is pretty malleable if you're careful. The biggest issue was an enlarged jet orifice that was visibly oval - couldn't get it to burn clean or simmer properly until I swapped it out. As it had never been fired this was the last thing I looked at! My believe is even if they've never been actually used some squaddies get trained on "maintaining" these stoves. Then they get released as surplus (or possibly liberated?) and turn up on ebay. As my one had never been fired I guess I can't blame the seller for not finding the jet issue - took me long enough! Well done to your seller for compensating you though.

By any chance, would any of you chaps have a spare pump for my No. 12..?

Ross, Trevor and I have spent half the day trying to fettle the stove with no conspicuous signs of success - the whole sad tale tomorrow... :(

    Thanks, Cliff.

I wondered about that yesterday. At some point, I'll wander down to the garden shed, extract my No. 2 from the pile of stoves in there and swap the pumps over.

I've had my No. 12 for a couple of years but it's had the most massively incontinent NRV I've ever seen on a stove. Easy enough to fix, I thought, but the pump simply refused to be removed from the tank by any conventional (and some unconventional means) so it ended up at Ross's house yesterday for his attention.

Spanners still had zero effect due to the pathetically small 'flats' on the top of the pump and we eventually ended up with the pump held in a big engineer's vice and turning the tank. Finally, a combination of strength (Ross), heat and bad language (me  ) resulted in the pump unscrewing from the tank, although it had suffered some damage in the process.

The NRV 'pip' then proved to be in good, serviceable condition which puzzled me a bit but Ross noticed a gap where the end of the pump tube was soldered on. Two seconds in the vice and this just about fell off due to hardly any solder being used to make the joint. To think that someone cared so little about doing a proper job really gets me riled [-X - as if the military don't have enough to contend with as it is, without being supplied with sh*te (and probably over-priced) equipment... :x :x :x :x :x

Anyway, the threads at the top of the pump tube had become damaged and the pump cap wouldn't screw back on, no matter how we tried so that was 'game-over' The pump from Ross's No. 12 screwed into my tank quite easily so that suggests the threads on my pump were over-tolerance from the start...

    So that's sh*te engineering on top of the sh*te soldering - thanks very much T&C, NOT! :x :x :x :x :x

    Aargh, I need to lie down... :-& :-& :-&

Bad news mate :( , lucky its fixable :D .

I compared the pump rod from the 12 and the 2 and the number 2 pump rod has a better pump washer fitment so you will end up with a far better stove in the end

    All the best

I've just purchased a No 12 from eBay, and am wondering about purchasing some of these pans. Do they nest inside the stove when it is packed away?

    Thanks!
