I'm new to this, but I'm quickly getting sucked in. I really want to have a 111T or some similar. I have a number of roarer types, but I need/want something a bit quieter. I'm thinking 111T.

I'm open to suggestions for other choices. This will be for car camping. I would like to burn kerosene or white gas. I'm still new to kerosene and I've never burned alcohol in a stove.

Is there a source for new or good used stoves of this type or has everyone gone high tech with the dragonfly and Nova's?

I don't really like the ebay experience, but will use if I have to.

    I appreciate the help.

I'm in the US, Oregon. There are probably lots of them, but being new I have yet to learn how to find them.

I was looking at a Phoebus 625 at an estate sale the other day, but didn't know how to determine if it was a good purchase. Now that I've found this site I can be more informed.

You will likely laugh, but I think I'm hooked. Last night I played around with a damaged Svea 123. I tinkered until it worked. To test I made a cup of coffee on it. What satisfaction.

There's been a crapload of new 111T's and some 111's and 111B's on eBay over the past two weeks.

The good news is that prices on Ebay have REALLY reduced lately. Good time to pick one up if you don't have the patience to find one elsewhere for real world pricing.

Thanks for all the help. I'll keep an eye on Ebay. Honestly I've been watching a little and I've mostly seen them go for really high prices. I want one to use, not necessarily a collectible.

Anyway, thanks for the kind thoughts.

    Hey, Solstice,

I would suggest you hit every swap meet, flea market, yard/garage sale, and antique shop that you can find. Haunt them on a regular basis, and you will be shocked at the great deals you can find! Just a few months ago, I got a brand new Optimus 111T, in the box, with all it's goodies, for just $30. So, the deals are there. But, you do have to go and find them! Best of luck, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

I appreciate all the inspirational talk. You have me motivated to go to the garage sales.

In the meantime I'm working on a couple Coleman 400A's and a Nova.

Do you have any tips on what I should watch for when evaluating a prospective 111T? Obviously general condition, any small bits that can be missing and hard to replace?

    Thanks a bunch.

Check to see if the pump plunger is a leather cup (better) or a nitrile o-ring. (not so good) The o-rings wear out quickly and are more tempermental than the traditional leather.

This is what the o-ring looks like:

Also it's better to get the newer style multi-tool knob. It looks like this:

Great pictures and advice. I'm still on the hunt for the elusive 111T. Nothing at the garage sales this weekend. I found some Coleman stoves and a lot of good old stuff I wish I had time and space to keep.

What fuel do these stoves run best on? Given a choice what do most run them on?

Thanks to all that have been helping me in my quest.

Here in the States, I think coleman fuel is the best alternative. Considering the difference in heat output between kero and coleman (minimal), cleanup of a spill, and priming differences that is,....

    Hey, Guys,

Just a plug for giving kero a try in your 111T stoves. Yes, Coleman fuel is outstanding, and I still burn a lot of it. But 111t stoves, like 199's, and Ranger #10's, SCREAM on a diet of kerosene!!! :D/  :D Sometimes it seems that kerosene, when used as a fuel in those stoves, not only burns very hot, but also simmers better than Coleman fuel, in some cases. Worth a try, in any case. I like kero, very much, and also Coleman fuel, and also Meths. With that Triumvirate of fuels in your arsonal, you have covered very single base!! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Finn in Norway has some ex-Norwegian army 111Ts in good condition for sale at very reasonable prices. I got one from him. His email is fhjelmer@nokab.no.
