It seems a possible simple/easy silent improvement like the fact Trangia now maked the lids from Ul thus saving 10g, as mentioned above .... NB...

It seems modern(current) 27 kettles now have a UL lid so are 10g lighter than their predessors :)
I have miscounted, it looked like was made from 'L'shapes and sh but is 3 equal 'U'shapes it seems... No puzzlement required it seems. :)

Yes, so better to modify the modern replacement tabbed base than the oldstyle upper windshield
If you replace an old tab-less base whilst keeping its old upper windshield you either need to cut slots in the original upper wind shield or...
but you have to align the tabs with slots which is a pain/ awkward plus the windshields might get inadvertently rotated in use and partially...
