Wonderful pictures John. So how long does the fuel last on those stoves at full throttle? Do you really need a pot stand or will a pot sit well on the opening flaps? Is there a storage inside for the actual pot stand? Ron
Thanks Ron, I see from Pauls pictures of the pot stand that it stores in the case upside down with the gas tank sitting in it. You definitely need the pot support, the case is very thin and if you were to rest it on the flaps the flaps would just snap or be damaged. The support rests on the top of the arch and is evenly distributes the weight. Plus without it the pot would be right on top of the burner. I haven't yet gotten a burn out of them as I am still cleaning. They haven't been used in years and I am taking it slow, Duncan (Zincman) is making me the stands (Thanks Duncan!) So I should eventually have some working pictures up. I don't plan on using these but I do like them to be able to work. I'm fairly certain the heat shield is backed with asbestos that looks kind of flaky plus the cases are pretty fragile. Tank looks like it is about 30-50% larger capacity than an 8R.
John, I would guess that this was intended for civilian use albeit the burner tank assembly is built to last, it would not stand a chance with rough handling. That said, I guess its more of a collectors item. Would be nice to see it work with Duncans pot stands on it once its been sent to you. Ron
I really appreciate those pics. I am going to have to have a go at building a replica. A delightful "tin-plate toy" tab construction for the case removes my worry about welding thin ali.
