I bought this stove for 23 European Monopoly money on the bay.
From the sellers pictures it is evident that it has taken a lot of use and some beating.

Note the filler cap and the toolmarks where once i antient time knurling resided. It had a lead gasket so no wonder!

Note also the general brass colour or lack thereof.

The threading on the burner for the burnerbell was toast, and the burnerbell only stayed on hanging by the teeth. Note the adjustment that facilitated this

    1274896437-RIMG0376__Medium_.JPG

What does this "heart" in the burnerbell mean/symbolise?

    1274896502-RIMG0374__Medium_.JPG

So after some cleaning it was time to fettle new threads on the burner.

Here is the obligatory flame shot

    1274896612-RIMG0380__Medium_.JPG

I also re-knurled the filler cap

BTW has anybody got a spare key for this kind of stove? It is much smaller than the one for my 123, only 3mm square.

A British Army Number 7 box is on the way to give the Primus a new home :D/

Interesting. Will silver solder stand the thermal/physical stress or heat/cool?
Just have visions of it cracking.

    Henrik,

    NICE fettle! Very well executed.

An army #7 box is somewhat tight (at least on my Primus 71), but it does fit. I usually unscrew the burner bell, put the stove in the box, and then screw the burner bell back on.

I don't recall for sure which keys will fit a Primus 71. Did you try a 123R key (which has a larger "box") or an original style 123 (which has a smaller "box"). Again, my memory is a little fuzzy, but I think the original style 123 will fit. I also seem to recall that the key off an Optimus 80 will fit, but that may be only on Primus 71 stoves manufactured after Optimus bought Primus' liquid fueled brand in 1962.

I'm going hiking tonight, but I can pull out my old style 123 and my Optimus 80 and see if the keys fit tomorrow night if you like. My Primus 71 is the older style (before Optimus took over) like yours.

Nice Henrik! Very clever thread replacement.

The "heart" is where the lever for the mix adjustment device used to protrude.

So the 71 has got a home, an Brittish Army Number 7 box.
I think it was hikin_jim that said: The 71 in a number 7 is a squeeze fit. And he's right you know, in fact it dont fit!!

The stove is 15-20mm to high so it rises past the pot supports by 4-5mm.

    1275071965-RIMG0387__Medium_.JPG

    1275071972-RIMG0388__Medium_.JPG

A brainfart later this steelring and risers was fetteled.

    1275071982-RIMG0389__Medium_.JPG

    1275071994-RIMG0390__Medium_.JPG

And the best part is that the lid still closes perfectly.

    1275072001-RIMG0391__Medium_.JPG

But the ultimate proof is in the brew.

A very interesting solution, Henrik. Are you planning to make more and sell them? If so how much would it cost?

My Primus 71 is slightly shorter than yours. The pots supports rise a mm or so above the top of the burner plate. It's interesting that yours is taller. My Primus 71 was made in 1962 (the year Optimus bought the rights to the Primus name for liquid fueled stoves), but is of all Primus parts. It's a true 71 not a re-badged Optimus 80.

In all honesty i must admit that i cheated a little bit
I filed the pot supports @2mm shorter to accomodate the ring.
I'll make one for you tomorrow and ship it togheter with the NRV-pump thingamabob, monday.

Nonsense. A little bit of filing to get a classic stove back into operation is hardly cheating.

NRV-pump thingamabob? For me? Wasn't that for Ron? Of course we Californians all look alike, so I can understand any confusion.

He he he, reading to all the confusion Henrik must have a dozen or more orders of different items (he now makes). The thingamaboob NRV was intended for me while of course the pot stand ring is for HJ.

Henrik, am amazed too whenever your brain farts............really! Look forward also to the next (brain) fart

Henrik, did you get it sorted out as to which keys will fit your Primus 71?
