Hey, Guys, Whilst looking for some other stuff in my iPhoto program, I stumbled upon these photos of the upstairs stove room, back when it was in fairly decent condition, and free of the boxes and storage stuff that's also up there now! So, here are a few of my stoves, just for fun! Sorry about the yellowish cast. Back when I took these, I didn't do a good job of regulating that in photos. Here goes: On this first shot, all the stoves you can see on that old cedar chest, came from ONE trip up to Alaska!!! It was, and remains, my single most productive stove hunting haul, ever!! Had to ship them all home, as they did not fit in my luggage! Someday, I still hope to be able to have far more of my stoves out and on display, so I can enjoy them whenever I wish! No time, soon, unfortunately....! Now, let's see your own stove displays, again!! I look forward to seeing whatever you all wish to share! And, I know that, like me, some of you may already have posted such photos before. But, let's see them again, please!! 8) Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Hi Doc what s superb display of a marvalous collection you have gained over the years and some real beauties among them in fact it reminds me of the primus museum there must be several hundred stoves /lamps in your back room alone many thanks for shareing them and well done there
HI, Guys, Many thanks, Lads! Having been at this hobby for many, many years, the stoves just seem to add up, if you know what I mean! 8) Some say they actually breed, and hey, maybe those folks are right! The orange stove, which was in the Alaskan haul, is, indeed, an Optimus Rider, as Ron wrote, it's model number is #323. This version of the stove had a few problems, which the later model, the #324, worked out and solved. But, when this 323 came along on that Alaskan trip, I couldn't pass it up, especially as it had it's original windscreen, which is missing from a good many of those you see offered on the 'Bay. Thanks, again, Guys, for the nice comments! Back when I first stumbled onto CCS, almost accidentally, my stoves were packed, and had been for many years. I'd gotten more into shooting, and Living History, and so my poor stove were sadly neglected! But, after finding this outstanding site, I "remembered" that quite a few neat old stoves were patiently waiting to be "found" again, out in the shed, and also down in the Hobbit Hole!! I've been "finding" them, right here at home, ever since!! 8) Take care, Lads, and as always, God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc P.S. Don't forget to post your own photos of displayed stoves, too. No matter how many you have, or how few, stove displays are outstanding fun, and much enjoyed by most everyone here at CCS!!
Hey Doc, You've got an admirable collection (and I realize that what we see here is only part of it). I joined the stove collecting "business" only about a year ago. Until then I just had 2 stoves and one blow-torch which I knew I was going to restore one day. (Never heard the word "fettle" then.) So here is my modest collection. (Actually the major part of it, and without the lanterns.) Yonadav
Hi, Yonadav, Many thanks for your always kind words, Sir, and congratulations on a wonderful collection, and a clean and enjoyable display!! Your collection, especially in the very short time you've been interested in this hobby, is nothing short of outstanding!! Very well done!! I really like those shelves you are using, and may have to do something similar up in the stove room, to take full advantage of wall space. Again, very nice collection, Yonadav, with many wonderful specimens to enjoy! Many thanks for sharing it with us here at CCS! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
nice collections you two, it makes me feel much more normal however, what's that in the middle of the front row?
Hi, Tetley, I think you mean the Taykit Pocket Stove. It folds all up into it's case, which is made of Monel metal, which us somewhat impervious to rust. Nice bit of kit, actually, and one of the few coil burners that I trust completely. I can post photos, if you'd like to see it, or you can check our the Reference Section. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
thanks, i've found some instructions in the reference gallery, but sadly no photos. from the B&W pics, it looks interesting, could i press you for some pics to go into the reference saction? perhaps even with something for scale, like a coke can or fag packet. not one of your coins - means nothing to many of us what do you think monal metal actually is?
Hi, Tetley, Glad to post some photos of my Taykit stoves. Can't happen today, unfortunately, but I'll get to it as soon as I can. I have two of the little rascals, and think highly of them. Ingenious design, which packs into that Monel case, and can be carried in a coat pocket. Don't smoke, but Io can take a photo with something we'd all recognize, for scale. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Check this index page in the Ref Gallery > America > Other Brand section I think Monel was a high end Marine alloy or form of stainless steel. Along with the Borde, one of the few coil burners of quality. I've just had fun in the last 10 minutes with a poor quality coiler - okay as a collectable but not a user like the aforementioned.
Thanks for sharing Doc. Very nice. I put more shelves up in my garage this weeekend to take care of stoves bought since Oct. and for future buys. Much nicer, even with the shelving I put up in Oct.
Howdy, Chuck! Guilty, as charged, my Friend!! And, YOU, as well as a few other Old Timers here at CCS, helped to push me over the edge, Mate, with all your enthusiasm and encouragement over the years. Once you taught me how to post photos, a "few" years ago, it was all over....! 8) Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc (Happily infected with the Stove Pox, and helping to pass it along to other, unsuspecting victims!) 8)
Hey, Guys, Paul, many thanks, Sir! All in good fun, and like most everyone else here at CCS, I just can't seem to get "enough" stoves, and continue to buy them when good ones come my way!! Remember, I've been at it far longer than many other Stovies, and for those Old Farts, like me and a few others here at CCS, many years of collecting, means many stoves! 8) Cook, welcome to CCS, Sir!! As to whether my collection is big, or normal, I can only respond that it's "normal" to me!! But, when I read your question to Sweet Bride, my wonderful wife of almost 31 years, she replied, "Definitely NOT normal"!!!! She said this, of course, whilst smiling broadly at me! I think she was kidding..... I think..... I HOPE!! Someday, Lads, I do hope to have more of my collection on display. But, that day is still a while in the future. Too many stoves, too many other things that have to be done, and too little time to get it all accomplished!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc P.S. I do believe that Fr. Laurence, from Down Under, has more stoves than do I, if memory serves, and I'm betting some of our good Friends from The Land of the Rising Sun also have deep and vast stove collections, most of which are in almost mint condition!! I love seeing their collections!!
