Currently on Ebay UK (Item No 230583251323, ending 17 Feb, 201121:30:17 GMT). The seller has given permission for the pics and description to be added to Spiritburner. Seller description: 'Travelling spirit stove and pan kit, circa 1910. All packs away into the leather travel case. Nickel plated copper with silver plated interior to the pan, ebony wood handle. All in good condition, a small insignificant bump on the edge of the burner base, the leather case has shrunk so all a tight fit, missing strap. Early motoring picnic/military campaign. Height of case 5" or 130mm, weight 683 grams.' My comments: Barrett & Sons, (A for Andrew born in Ireland in 1819) traded from premises at 63 & 64 Piccadilly from 1878 to 1910: They then moved to 157-158 Picaddilly. They were originally brush makers, and in 1900 expanded into trunk making. By 1910 they were making officers Sam Browne belts, trunks, shoes, boots and gun cases. By 1920 the sons RJ, HA, WE, and HH Barrett were heavily involved and Barretts moved to 9 Old Bond Street (see post No 158660, topic No 17984 by 'jvan' for a similar set by 'W Barrett of 9 Old Bond St). By 1935 they were dealing in curios, antiques, semi-precious stones, ivories and jade. As at 1975/6 they were still at 9 Old Bond St and were still describing themselves as 'brush makers'. The address is now 'Gina Shoes'. I am sure that Barretts will only have made the leather case. The spirit set would have been bought in. I have seen one reference to Barretts holding a Royal Warrant for the supply of spirit based lamps & water heaters.
What an elegant and tiny stove. I love the leather case, the knock down handle and the pot stand is first rate. Nice pot too, perfect for one person.
This is another version of the A Barrett and Sons spirit set. The cases are identical, this case is in quite good condition, plenty of dubbin on to preserve. The cups are substantially different to the each other, although the spirit burner is virtually identical, although this one has its wicked spirit tube burner.
