Here's my Homestrand Mariner alcohol marine stove. A very nice item to add to the collection. In another thread I asked about converting this unit over to kerosene. This is a show of the stove after the conversion. All I had to do was change the jet, the cleaning needle and remove the air restrictor tube. Flame shots will follow. This stove has the Svea 1915 burners with Svea inner caps and the Svea outer caps. A very fine sample. The caps are numbered 839 with a letter 'S' for spirit. The same stamp is on the jet as well. I fortunate enough to get the drip pan, lighting tubes, inner caps, and mounting rails. Looks as though this stove has had very little use. sam
Hi Sam, Great job on that Homestrand . It appears to be in great shape and you were lucky to get the inner caps with the stove as all of mine only came with outers. Great flame shots too . Dan
Yes, I feel very fortunate to get the stove in the first place AND get the inner caps. I was surprised to find them in there expecting them not to be. Saves me having to find new ones. What I have found is that these are very nice stoves. I can't believe how nice this one is and how really nice it operates. The flame control is excellent. The stove top is excellent. I did some boil tests on these burners and found them to match that of my 111Ts. Simmering is excellent. I should have gotten one a long time ago. I finally had to get the ball rolling and found this one. Thanks guys! sam
Hi Sam, You are right about that statement. Gary and Doc turned me on to this model some time ago as I wanted a good kero double burner, but didn't want to spend the big money for a Optimus 22. The flame control is fantastic on the Svea 1915 burners and probably my favorite regulated burner of all I own. Have fun with it and don't forget how to convert them as I am sure it will not be your last . Dan
Very nice fettle! I have one of these and would like to convert to kero. I will need to change the whole burner unit, any idea where to get them? AJ
These folks have some parts. Not sure about the burners, but I did see the kero burners (somewhere) for $85 each... Somewhere...
Thanks to Dan, Doc and myself (and now Sam - nice job on the stove by the way ) talking about these stoves, they have steadily risen in price on eBay. Nonetheless, I think you can still get them for under a hundred if you watch carefully. It's probably easier (and cheaper) to buy another with the Svea 1915's this time than try to find regulated kero burners of any flavor to convert your alky version, AJ. Good luck and happy shopping. Cheers, Gary
Thanks for the tips guys. I think Gary has it right, I will just keep an eye out for a complete unit for parts. AJ
Hi gents, is there much difference between these, and the Optimus boat stoves? I have a kero version with inbuild pre-heating torches, the 'bodywork' does not look as nice as the Homestrand but it functions rather well. Maybe more a mather of sentiment? What are your thoughts? Best regards, Wim
Yeah, the burners are quite expensive. I'm sure you will find a complete unit for less than one of the burners. I found this one on the yabe for $50 USD BIN. I've seen burners pop up every now and then for about $85USD each. Best of luck to you. sam
I found a source for two of the Svea 1915 burners over six weeks ago, checked this last week they are gone. They only had the two, $95 a pop each. Duane
