Welcome! I'm guessing this the B version of the 22? Can you confirm? If so it'll not burn kerosene well due to the design of the burners (just one U tube instead of 2). I'd be cautious about burning petrol in it until all the seals have been checked - especially the one way valve at the bottom of the pump. If that fails fuel can come up the pump tube & could catch fire. There are no date codes on these, even if it is the Primus badge version. I'd say 60's or 70's.
Hi, and welcome at CCS! If your stove has burners designed to burn petrol, then that's the fuel to use! You can ofcourse replace the burners (if these can be found at reasonable cost ) to use paraffin in your stove. Paraffin needs more heat to vapourise, so these burners have an extra tube to help the proces. If your stove is made by Primus (before Optimus took over their production for liquid fuel stoves) then there should be a circle with (a) letter(s) and number(s). What the numbers mean, nobody knows. The letters start at "A" being 1911, goes up to "Z" to continue with "AA", "AB" etc. For example, "AW" is 1957. Sadly, most other makers of stoves didn't bother with dating them. (As you posted this in the 'Optimus' section I'm afraid yours will not be dated then. Looking through the old catalogs on the site will only give you a rough idea) Best regards, Wim PS., Ross aka Spiritburner is typing a lot faster than me, so beat me to it (I only use 2 XXL fingers )!
The 22 was an Optimus stove & they rebadged it as a Primus post the acquisition of the brand-name for such products in 1962. It was available under both names. it did not exist as a Primus prior to the Optimus involvement. Some models did - the Primus 535 was adopted by Optimus as their own.
hey thanks!!i figured it was intended for petrol only, but burning the car gas scares me..do you know if white gas will be acceptable in the 22b?thanks
come up the pump tube?that would explode,no fun then!will you tell me how to check that valve?and thank-you in advanced!!!!
Yes, in fact white gas (or similar products) would be better than petrol due to the additives in petrol.
