"... a good simmering stove" I got marginally more output with an original wick-fed butane cartridge that gets liquefied gas to the burner. I've found with a Hank Roberts stove taking that cartridge that it offers more power than even an inverted remote cartridge on a flexi hose does. However it takes ages for that mass of metal in the burner head to heat up and until then the stove is tricky to get going without flaring, requiring constant adjustment of the control knob. Once heated up it provides a reliable and steady output Ten minutes to boil water and not a lively rolling boil at that I knew I could get more out of it, having adapted a Hank Roberts clone to put out more power Turbo-powered Hank Roberts clone Borrowing the burner control valve, and bored out riser tube and jet, sure enough the potential of the Gerry stove was unleashed. John you sure are getting quite the collection of Hank Roberts/Gerry stoves. However did you manage to get a fuel canister through the Post to you??

Nice one, John. Looks like you found out the same thing that I did -- that the Gerry Infra-red without modifications isn't very powerful. It's a very interesting stove, but not the most practical. It's quite heavy and bulky compared to it's more conventional burner Gerry stove counterparts. Fascinating though what it looks like with your modifications. Hmm. Very thought provoking. HJ
That gas cartridge didn't come with that stove but with a previous purchase. Emptied, it came by air, though I think the sender mistook it for a steel mug, because that was what was marked on the waybill ... I refilled it (and have refilled it half a dozen times since) on receipt.
