Here is a pretty complete Prentiss Wabers Auto-Cook-Kit. Case is nice, with original paint. Has pump, funnel, perhaps the original wrench (it fits a few places on the stove). The key is a skate key, which I do not believe is original. However, the key does fit and work, so it will stay for now. It's a nice, compact stove. I hope to be able to get it up and burning soon.
Run for your lives! It's a 533 generator on steroids! That is without a doubt the LONGEST generator I have ever seen. Nice find. Mike
Yes, the generator is insanely long. It is a totally different generator and cast iron housing than the other PW4's in the CCS gallery, so perhaps this is a very early version of this stove? I don't see how it is possible for a generator pin/tip to go all the way through that, around the bends, and out the tip and still be able to move. There is nothing in the control knob that indicates it moves anything internally in the generator. I have not taken the jet/tip off, so I don't know what is or is not in there. The control knob has a tapered end to it (see last pic above). My speculation is that the only real control is the amount of gas that is allowed to flow from the tank through the generator tube. The tank is tinned metal, not brass like most of the others in the gallery. This is a couple stoves down on the fettle list, so flame shots may be a little while away, but I will post many pics of it as disassembly and cleaning proceeds.
I did some looking on Terry Marsh's website, and my thought that this is an early version of the #4 appears to be correct. Also, the "early" version #4 on his site mentions the stove having a "skate key" for operating the second burner, and it looks like the one on my stove. So I guess that key is original. Interesting. Here is a link to the Marsh site: http://tgmarsh.faculty.noctrl.edu/lantern/stoveip.htm and here's what the text is from the early #4: In 1925 Preway introduced the two burner Model 4. Joe Pagan believes the above stove, in Rodney Redondo's collection, is this first version of the Model 4, as it has the tank mounted on the left and the "skate key" to control the second burner.
my PW no.4 is set up differently from yours. the fuel tank is on the right side of the case, and the generator is different. i'll try to get some images up later buzz
