Hello everyone, please see pics of a recently purchased Primus 2 burner. I am having difficulty identifying. Looking through the Reference Library the closest I could find was in "Primus Camp & Hiking Stoves" The size is definatly consistant with it being an 80 as pictured in that catalogue, however the legs on this one are totally different and pivot from a different location. The windshields also lack the cutout along the bottom edge. The 80 in the catalogue is stamped Primus behind the carry handle but my stove has no branding at all on the case. Everything on the case appears factory Primus but without their name, no signs of any previous stickers either. The grating on mine is definately not original so best ingnore that for ID purposes. My tank is dated "AL" 1947 Hoping someone can help, was there a successor to the 80?

Hi this is a primus 80 Primus 80
I had my hands on like yours briefly this year, I thought it was an early primus 77. The one I had may have been embossed 77, I can't remember. It did however have the same trivet. Hopefully the person I forwarded it to will post photos some time.

Hi this is an easy one, I've got a couple of these.
What you've got there is a recased primus 77 or 80 called a RELAX made by JJ Mccaskey,
Wellington (the trade mark was listed 1939).
I think it may have had something to do with material shortages during the war, or using up surplus from Sweden. (but I could be wrong!)

Great info Cinc, I scratched my head for a long time over the one I had. I bought that on behalf of someone. I have never actually owned a 77 or 80, or even a coleman suit case, poor me.

Wow, way to go Kiwis. A truley impressive response in such a short time. Thanks very much for that. Hey Cinc, are you able to post a pic of one of yours? I would be interested to see what the original grating or trivet looked like.Does yours have any manufacturers markings. I initialy though I was buying a 77 until this thing arrived in the post. Its definately bigger than the 77 I already have. Thanks again guys...cheers.

Mollymo, Welcome to the forum and if i may plagiarize briefly "welcome to the ship of pyros". That is a nice stove you have and a lucky find. I hope you will invest time and effort and give it a new level of respect so we all can admire it in the gallery. If you need anything here just ask, you're welcome any time. 8)

Dan in NZ (theyellowdog) sent me a note about this thread in email encouraging me to log on and post some pictures of the one he was kind enough to broker for me. Here is a link to the post I've just made in the Stove Reference Gallery.

Thanks to cinc for the additional information on this stove.

Thanks again to everyone for the exceptional response.Especially good to see the pics of that other stove. At least now I know, that although the grate on mine has been cut and fabricated from a much larger grate. It is in keeping with the style of the original. You've all been so helpful, best I start logging on to this site more often and try to give as much as I take...even if all I have to offer is pics for the gallery. Cheers to all.
