Hi, here are a few photos of my latest acquisition, which I received this afternoon. It is a Falk's Compact Picnic Camper Set, a No.96 size paraffin stove made by Falk, Stadelmann and Co. an English manufacturer which also made the Veritas, Duoburn, and other brands:

    1340990091-CCSFalk-Stove-3.jpg 1340990148-CCSFalk-Stove-5.jpg 1340990160-CCSFalk-Stove-1.jpg 1340990173-CCSFalk-Stove-2.jpg 1340990188-CCSFalk-Stove-4.jpg

I plan to fettle the stove and have most of the required parts to complete it.

I look forward to getting the Falk stove operating soon and will post additional photos then.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Hey George, looking at the size of the parking boss, pump and soldered parts, that seems to be even smaller than the 96 or RM Picnic. Any side by side pictures for comparison?

I also received an item today but have to familiarize myself with almost everything.

    Great acquisition

Hi Kerophile. That is a very nice looking stove, I presume that is how you received it. Someone took very good care of it. Interesting no air screw on the fuel cap and the pump tube really sticks out.
The tin looks like it is textured.

Whatever is missing, the paperwork and a wellpreserved case is pricless!
And so is the stove: what a nice find, George!
Duo Burn - a predecessor of the Dual Fuel?
Any idea what could have been meant with this plural hint - although turpentine, thinner or petrol would make a tea test too, I reckon. The anchorage for the tank cap suggests poor cost management - anything to do with its rarity?

Yet another british variant on a worldclass design: thank you for showing! Regards, Mike

Hi George, that is a very nice find! I have the same stove, but no box, paperwork, windscreen, flameplate nor legs. (I did get some of Stu's flameplates, so that's taken care of! :D/ ). I didn't realise these were rare?

    All the best,

    Wim

Nice one George, I had the impression that they were about half the size of a 96, a comparison pic would be great. Lovely stove - Steve.

The Duo-Burn half-pinter's crop up now and then but to get the boxed set makes that quite a catch indeed.

I wonder how many smokies you had to part with to reel that one in?

Can't beat Brian's write-up of this Falk Stadelmann & Co alternative to their Veritas brand

    Duo-Burn

A beautiful small stove! I too would like to see it next to something for scale comparison.
The title reminds me of the legendary "Tate's compass"... ;)

Hi, First the good news. I have fettled the Falk/Duo-burn stove and fitted the replacement parts:

    1341065738-St.357.-Falk--1.jpg 1341065751-St.357.-Falk--2.jpg 1341065761-St.357.-Falk--3.jpg 1341065773-St.357.-Falk--4.jpg 1341065783-St.357.-Falk--5.jpg 1341065794-St.357.-Falk--6.jpg 1341065804-St.357.-Falk-7.jpg 1341065818-St.357.-Falk--8.jpg 1341065831-St.357.-Falk--9.jpg 1341065844-St.357.-Falk--10.jpg 1341065858-St.357.-Falk--11.jpg 1341065875-St.357.-Falk--14.jpg 1341065895-St.357.-Falk--15.jpg 1341065913-St.357.-Falk--18.jpg

From the last photo you will see that the stove easily passed the "Tea Test"

The bad news is that the container is in poor condition with extensive rusting:

    1341065936-St.357.-Falk--16.jpg 1341065947-St.357.-Falk--17.jpg

I will need to neutralise this attack before deciding what colour to re-paint the tin.

Some of you asked for a size reference so I have taken a couple of photos of the Falk stove alongside another half-pint paraffin stove, the Optimus No.96:

    1341065961-St.357.-Falk--12.jpg 1341065973-St.357.-Falk--13.jpg

This Falk stove is well made and powerful for its size.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Hi, the legs shown in the earlier photos were borrowed from a very similar Duo-burn stove but they looked a little short for this Falk model. This brought the kettle/pan base very close to the flame-plate.

Today I made up a new set of legs using 3/16 in. diameter AISI 316 stainless steel and made them a little longer. I bent them cold and then forged the ends and did a little filing to get them the correct shape to fit the sockets on the tank/feet. These legs don't have a "kink" but I am sure they will do the job:

    1341333729-St.357.-Falk--19.jpg 1341333792-St.357.-Falk--20.jpg 1341333807-St.357.-Falk--21.jpg 1341333822-St.357.-Falk--22.jpg 1341333840-St.357.-Falk--23.jpg 1341333854-St.357.-Falk--24.jpg

    The coffee was good too.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

    Wonderful stove, George!

Randy, I am probably the only one here familiar with the Tate's Compass. It was a abysmal failure due to its advertising slogan: He who has a Tate's, is lost. [-(

    Hi @kerophile

    Old thread dig up sorry.

I've just got a Sol jun 533 missing the flame spreader/ burner plate.

Can you confirm for me whether it's 96 size?

I see Basecamp have cast iron 96 ones available and just want to check before I order, it's a long wait for the next order..... for wrongly ordered parts down here... :)

Appreciate if you can offer advice.

    Cheers
    Barrett

Hi @Barrett My post is now over 10 years old and this stove is in “storage”.

Your Sol stove is likely of very similar dimensions to the Optimus and Primus No.96 stoves, as in my Falk example.

HOWEVER, I would recommend that you measure the diameter of the burner head of your Sol and contact Base Camp directly to confirm a fit with the particular flame plate they offer.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Thank you @kerophile, Ian (I think in my cloudy mind)

    Thank you for the reply.
I will measure and check with Basecamp.

    Cheers

    @Barrett
My Falk Duo Burn seems to be closer to hand. It has a cast burner plate.
Measuring that and other makes gives the following dimensions:
AB Radius: circle diameter (CD) 33mm Overall (OD) 51mm
Primus named CD 33, OD 53
Made in Sweden CD 34, OD 52
    DuoBurn CD 34, OD 52

The larger OD indicates longer supports, which is of no consequence on a supporting bell. I am not familiar with your Sol Jun so cannot comment on that, but a measure across the bell should be a good indicator.

Thank you @Dean for going to so much trouble!
I'll see what Basecamp have in stock.

I managed to fire the stove up last night with a ill fitting homemade flame spreader with a CD of 31mm that I had at hand, it looked a bit small inside bell and flame didn't reach the roar I expected even when experimenting with height, your measurements confirm it was undersized.

@kerophile my apologies for forgetting your name, it suddenly came to me that I think it is actually George.....

    Thank you both for replying

    Cheers
