    Evening, Don,

Congrats on scoring a nice, US-made Solus!! And, it's a silent burner, too, which I think is a little more on the rare side. You did a fine job on cleaning it up, too, plus your photos are good. Do you have a line on the parts you will need to get it up and running again? If not, maybe I can help. I'm not certain if Optimus inner and outer caps will fit your stove, but if they do (and they DO fit many other brands of stoves), I can probably get some for you. Or, you can call A&H, listed in the "Links" area of this site, and order the needed inner and outer caps. If they fit, then your Solus should work perfectly, if nothing else is in need of work. Are you wanting to get your stove running? Let me know if I can help, or call A&H, and see if you can get the necessary parts. By the way, I'll be heading down to A&H in about two weeks, and can pick up your caps, should you want me to do that for you. Be happy to help! Take care, and God Bless!

    Doc,
Tried to get it to fire up last night, using the silent burner caps(inner and outer) from a 111t. I primed twice using meths got a very odd green priming flame and no kero would come out of the jet. I currently have no prickers of any size to try to clear the jet. any ideas what size is needed the jet is probably the same as the roarer. The pump leather seems to have come back to life (roughed it slightly and saokeked it in 3 in 1 oil and I get resitance when I try the pump but nothing comes out of the jet. any advice would be appreciated.

    Morning, DB,

From what you describe, it sounds like you're doing things just right. Did you take the burner off of the tank, and put it into the vinegar bath by itself? I usually do that, and before the burner goes into the soup, I always take the nipple off, too, and toss that into the soup as well. It won't be easy to get the jet to come off, but if you've got one of those Optimus, or Primus, wrenches that came with many of the 111 stoves, you can make it happen. I would imagine that your "odd green priming flame" was caused by residual cleaning materials on the stove. Usually, I get that same green flame, once I have cleaned and reassembled a stove, and light it for the first time. After the cleaning agents burn out of it, the flame will probably be our favorite color of blue! :D After cleaning the burner, inside and out, I'd try a pricker from an Optimus 48, or a Primus 54, or some other silent burner stove, if you have such a thing. I own a Primus 210 that was never fired up, and came with an paper sleeve of fine wire, that it's original owner had added to it, as a cleaning wire backup. According to what he wrote on the sleeve, the regular pricker, Primus #4605, measures .0125" and a wire of .014" is too big. Therefore, this fellow added a sleeve of wires that measure .012 x 4", and thought that he'd covered his bases nicely. I did not check his measurements, but it's food for thought for you. The Primus #4605 pricker was standard for larger silent burners, like the #54, so it just might work for you. See if you can find some fine wire that measures .012" and give that a try. If it works, then buy a bunch of those wires, and VOILA, there you have it! :D If you can't find such wire, then I can send you one of the ones that came with my 210. Good luck, and keep us apprised of your progress. And, don't worry, it will work out fine, as long as you keep up the good work! Take care, and God Bless!

I remember some time ago there was a posting about pricker wire.
Didn't someone use the unravelled wire from a bicycle brake cable?

it didn't hold for long (as I went for the fourth pick it went out) I think the pumpvalve may need some work as when I pumped it would almost go out on the out stroke and come back on the in stroke. But I did get blue flame. A work in progress but the the blue is satisfying none the less.
