Here's my No. L Traveller, that Gary (BernieDawg) graciously completely restored for me. I can't thank him enough. It is a real beauty now . He resoldered a badly done leg support & also one of the ball feet that had been resoldered backwards at some point along with custom making stainless legs with the brass collars. The pictures except for the last 2 with the support rings are also Gary's (I'm not photographer). Thanks again Gary!
Hey, Big BTU, Absolutely STUNNING, Sir!!!! That is one fine looking, and fine running stove, and BD has once again shown us his stuff!!! Well done, all around, and many thanks for sharing this lovely beauty with us!!! YES!! WOW! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Hi Doc, Thank you very much for the compliments, they are all thanks to Gary. I wish I could load some pictures of how it looked from before . It was pretty road weary. It truly is not the same stove. BD is the best. He even gave me the heads up on the support ring which I won off of Ebay UK. a true friend.
You are most welcome, John. That was a challenging but fun project. I hope you are enjoying the stove. And, thanks Doc and Ross. Since you mentioned it... I think I might have a few befores here somewhere. Ah, here they are! Your wish is fulfilled.
Well done BTU and Gary a brilliant restoration and transformation. This beautifull old stove looks a 100 times better with all that untidy soldering redone perfectly and the brass polished up revealing the beauty of the brass well done again fellows
Very nice !!! One question - small producer letters on different languages - saved? Cant see it on foto =(
Thanks again Gary, & thanks for the pictures of the stove before the restoration. This is my only bun foot stove & is a favorite.
Bratok_xxl asked: "One question - small producer letters on different languages - saved? Cant see it on foto =( " Much of the upper part of the Optimus globe was already gone by the previous repairer's hand as you can see in the last photo in post #248439 above. I don't think anything was lost in my restoration:
Nice BD !!! Very hard save letters in polishing. I see all the foto and not sure for 100% - tank has been plated by chrome? or its just foto quality? Tnx for you comments
It's just the photo quality that makes it look chrome. The color balance is way off on the chrome looking ones. It's still brass. They were quickie photos - I didn't process them well. My bad. Here's a link to the other Traveler I have posted here at CCS: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/9012 It is one step from the high polish of John's. On John's, I used a dark wax and waxed the stove to help pick out the lettering a bit and slow down the oxidation. Thanks for the compliments.
Great stove, great restoration!! Want one as well... It is the first time for me to see that integrated "wing nut" on the burner/rising tube. Since it appears to be so practical I am wondering why this feature is found so rarely. Does anybody know the reason why stove producers went for the "hex nut-rising tube" that required the otherwise superfluous spanner? Thanks and regards, Philipp
Wonderful! optimus stove John i can't well open my eyes, very shinny !! MR. Gary is very good restored master. thanks sharing for us, John. Gunsoo
