Hi All Twinshock ( John ) sent me this Lovely little Primus 70 petrol stove that had been badly abused by the previous owner ( I think ) who was in Montevideo in South America A well traveled stove , & this is what i had to play with ..... & this is what John asked me to sort out I didn't take any pic's of the work because i was getting stuck in & forgot but i managed to get the spirit cup off in one piece which had been badly soft soldered on around the broken riser as had the riser itself , this was going to make life difficult After much cajoling with the flame torch the riser still wouldn't move & i had to get serious with the pillar drill & carefully machined out as much as i could & managed to find some thread left in the fount & the replacement riser/burner was fitted here are the pic's of the 70 up & running 8) & of course the "the flame shots" I hope this is OK for you John Best regards Stu
loco7: that was a amazing job and fettle. I seriously would have doubts when seeing that condition of that burner tube and the soldering. The flame pattern was perfect blossoming flower in a indigo blue. You saved one more stove from disappearing of the planet. It was a pleasure to watch what you did to repair that stove.
Stu, That's such an amazing job, you really are the man who can, Thanks for saving the old teamaker, I shall look forward to having a brew with this old antique, just have to use tent pegs as a pot stand for now. :o . I bought this one off ebay from a seller in Montivideo, Uruguay & was the only bidder, the transit time was just over a week (by air), no doubt, Michael would be very interested to see your shots, (probably in disbelief). Please keep up the good work, Best wishes=John. :o . ------------------------- If in doubt, brew up.
As all ways Stu superb work, the 70 is now working as good as the day it was made. I notice this is the later version, most 70's I have seen have no regulator
Hi Brian, You are right, the original non valved riser tube was broken at some point in the stoves past, someone obviously attempted a soft solder repair which obviously couldn't have lasted. Stu has done a first class job of removing the remnants of the original riser tube & fitted the 71 burner assembly which I've supplied thereby enabling him to test the stove & for myself to operate it as its makers intended, to make tea &c. Maybe one day, someone will make me a riser tube & travel cap. Stu, Mr loco7stove, please take a bow, Best wishes=John. ------------------------ If in doubt, brew up
Hi John and Stu even though not original, it does make the stove safer and gives control in use. It is easier and safer to shut down the stove by closing a valve, than blowing out the flame and cracking open the filler cap to stop vapour and fuel coming out the jet, and having to wait to it cools right down before replacing the travel cap which is a part that is easily forgotten and lost, once again Stu well done there
Hi this is the transcript of the e-mail I received from Mikael Yussim of Montivideo, Uruguay, his ebay handle is 'Lovelyportmarnock' John, thanks so much for sharing these with me!!. I am proud of you!, you made an amazing job man!! I would have never imagined such a perfect restoration of this relic!! Have a great day and please let me know what I can help you with from this part of the world. Any particular piece you are looking for?. There is a lot available. Just let me know what you need. All the best Mikael. Of course, the real credit goes to Stu Loco7stove. Mikael could quite possibly be useful in locating parts for old stoves in South America. John. ---------------------- If in doubt, brew up.
@Alejandro The Primus 70 uses Coleman fuel (white gasoline). It has a wick from the tank into the burner. Check that the seal on your filler cap is ok. Saludos Tony
Muchísimas gracias por aclarar mi duda. Espero Hacer funcionar correctamente this belleza y poder Comenzar a Darle utili
@Alejandro Please ensure that the seal on the filler cap is working properly before using this stove with white gasoline (solvente bencina or nafta). The stove can only be shut off by blowing out the flame (DO NOT open the cap while the stove is burning). Saludos Tony
Muchas gracias por los buenos Consejos Tony. La mecha que usted me dice que lleva, se la consigue en algún kit o se la puede fabricar de forma casera? Es necesario sacar el tubo del quemador para su colocación?
@Alejandro The wick can be made from pure cotton strands. You can get the strands from a mop. It must be pure cotton. You need to remove the burner to replace the wick. So, before replacing the wick, try relighting the stove with correct fuel and make sure the fuel cap is sealing properly. Use a very fine wire (no bigger than 0.2mm) to clean the jet at the top of the burner. Then put 10ml of ethanol at the bottom of the burner tube and light the gas when it starts to come out of the jet. Tell us whether it is working ok or not. Saludos Tony
Hi, My stove has got the seven year itch, it has brewed up a few cuppas since Stu repaired it and the warranty is long time expired, I saw some Swedish Trangia windshields on evilbay (WS surplus, Oxford) at £4 each and snapped one up, unfortunately they don't do free postage on these items, they also do Swedish Trangia burner units in twos, you,ll require two wire tent pegs to hold the two wire supports in position if using pots which sit on top to raise the Swedish Trangia burner unit, Someone else on evilbay is selling Stainless steel pot stands to fit Trangia/ Highlander burner units, I snapped one of those up, assembled it and tried a Swedish Trangia unit which fits nicely. Pete (Mindwiseman) on YouTube uses a spoon as a regulator device enabling Swedish Trangia burners to simmer. Best wishes=John. If in doubt, brew up.
