Greetings, Wanted to get expert opinions from the group on using Gun Blue on bare iron (carbon steel) parts. Gun blue is used on gun barrels, etc. to put a protective coating on the metal. Cold bluing can be done using products like Brownell's Oxpho-Blue and others. It reacts with the bare metal to form an oxide of some nature. I use gun bluing on all of the wrenches for my stoves but that is about the extent. I also use it on the windshields provided they are not brass. I like it. Do yourself a favor first. Soak parts in vinegar, even steel but not to long then treat with the pre blue oil remover and then blue. Gives much better results. I usually give three or four coats and buff with steel wool after each dip then finish off with a little oil. Looks a treat. Good luck, Rob
