Now that I can finaly post again Well I just couldn't resist myself. I saw it on the internet and I just had to have it The seller said it used to belong to the Russian army. Any way it looks like a 8R clone and it runs on petrol. And of-course I got pics It came brand new in the box with a funnel and a booklet in russian Here it is folded with a funnel and the knob in it. Some tools tukked away in the lid. Closed up. And of course BURNING Al deflowering comes with red. Right? And one from the side. Funny thing these self pressurizing little stoves.. And another one to add to my growing collection
Nice little stove Good buy and nice pics ajvuik! The Russian army did have that stove (in green). You lit it inside Used one for a month last summer and it worked great. Cheap and good. The little wrench will be useful because those stoves are known to leak. Please be careful how you pack it. Having said that, a little petrol swimming around does make pre-heating much easier Steven
Hi ajvuik I have an identical stove. This one had just been lit. Very nice and burns as well as an Optimus 8R.
Yeah... if I'm confident it works ok, I always light my stoves inside. Just make sure you pre-heat them enough

They are excellent stoves . Been made for many decades. I've oinly heard good about them. A&H had new ones until recently. I guess they are no more..

Is there anyone that know if these and the other russian stoves still are produced? I would be interested in both this R1 stove, as well as the Ogonjok stove. So far I have one Schmelb-2 and one Schmelb-4 (that actually is my daughters stove) in my collection. I have tried to find someone in russia that could tell me more about the stoves but so far with no luck. Appearently they where made somewhere close to Moscow, as the name Moscow is in the factory name, or have I understood this wrong? Anders
Well if any of you are interested, I know a store that still sells these little critters brand new for about ?35,- if I am not mistaken. If anyone wants to have one... pm me and I'll figure the postage cost out ps. look at my other russian stove

I guess you have noticed that the potstands can be lifted out and turned the other way around in order to give better support for bigger pans. Great stove! I like it! Anders
Hey, Mates, Whilst perusing some older posts here at CCS, trying to find info on the Russian 8R clone I bought today from FleaBay, I stumbled onto this post again. Funny, that I mentioned that, "one day I would stumble onto some stoves like that", and today was the day, eh?!!!! Super cool! Hi Anders, As for the stove Shmel-2, which was made in Leningrad, I have found a link http://www.altaoptica.ru/detalis/pgpnp/dastan1.htm to manufacturer?s website. The new name of the stove is Dastan-1. The company is in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyz. I read a review on that clone. Quality got worse. The Ogoniok stove was made in Moldova and has not been produced since 90th. The clone of 8R was made in Moscow where I live, at the machine manufacturing company ?im. Chernyshova?. Again, it isn?t produced anymore. I have two of them. The last one was bought in 1998. I love that stove, use it during vacations in remote areas where it is difficult to find gas, but petrol is available. Bike touring is my hobby http://www.velo-idea.narod.ru/Turkey.htm The name of the Russian clone of 8R or ?optimus hunter? is ?tourist?s primus?. There is a joke that our tourers called it ?tourist?s death?. I think this name is undeserved. This kind of touring gear had never been a commercial product in the soviet era, but quality was good enough. So I like to use the thing which has its own history and still sounds. Moreover, one guy wrote on the internet forum that he saw a photograph of the stove with German swastika on it. He wrote that these stoves was made for German army during WWII. Hello, Alex, Great to have you here at CCS! As far as I know, you are our only Russian member! Hopefully, some of your Russian Stove Brothers will join, too. My own Russian 8R clone, the "Tourist's Primus" that you mentioned, arrived yesterday, and I'm very happy with it! I think is is well made, and looks like it should work very well, though I have not yet fired it up. Nice to know that it was made in Moscow, too. Thanks, very much, for the information you shared about the other Russian stoves, too. Are the Schmelb stoves still around, and if so, how can some of us buy them? This Tourist's Primus that I just got, is brand new in the original box, with it's original paperwork, too.
