On the "Primus 71L case question" thread I showed a picture of two auxiliary pot stands I made. Magnus pm'd me wanting to know if I'd make him some. I said I could certainly do that but as postage to Sweden would likely cost more than the potstands, I could write some simple instructions for making them. I was raised to believe that it is a good thing to know how to make things you need in the event you had to have something, and it was either not available, or you didn't have the wherewithal to get it. I have, on occasion, made and used my own: Moccasins, cooking utensils, stove, rope, knife, nails, boat, fish hooks, fishing line, fish and frog gigs, bullets, ammunition, black powder, gun flints, tent, pants, shirt, hat, coat, sewing awl, muzzleloading pistol and shotgun, and some complicated things too. My first attempts all looked like first attempts. My second and thirds were much better and took a lot less time. Now I have the recipes for many of the things I need, and that's much better than going without. Anyway......potstands. You will need: Narrow brass strip long enough to go around your stove with a small overlap. 3 1/2" or so of brass tubing that your potlegs will go into. Enough heavy wire to make 3 potlegs. I used some super cheap steel rod tent pegs. Some solder. I used 60/40 rosin core solder, because I have it A heat source, and some small clamps. First, carefully form the brass strip into a close fitting band around your stove fount, carefully marking the overlap. Tin the mating sides of the overlap with solder. Clamp the band exactly on the mark, then heat it until the solder melts. Allow it to cool. Cut three potleg tubes. 1 1/4" is a good length. Lay the band on a piece of paper and trace it inside. With a compass set to the radius of the traced circle, divide it into thirds. Draw three lines from the center throuh the 1/3d marks. Set the band on the trace, and set the potleg tubes on the 1/3d circle marks. Clamp in place and solder. Take your tent pegs and bend them into identical "7" shapes, then cut them long enough to allow about 3/4" or so between the burner bell and the pot bottom. That's it. I could go into excruciating detail, but I'm far too Lutheran for that. You're all grown men and God gave you intelligence to figure out the details. Make Him proud of you. Gerry
