I acquired this Radius No.7 stove from France early in 2008, but had set it aside as "too difficult" after some preliminary work. It looked as if one of the previous owners had tried to burn varnish as a fuel and the burner and pump internals were totally seized-up. It actually came with a Svea silent burner, minus both caps.I had fully restored the burner a few months ago. Recently I "pulled" the pump assembly from the tank, removed the base of the pump, and after burning off the varnish, and 4 separate heat and quench cycles, unscrewed the NRV. After cleaning up everything, I re-made the lower pump joint, added a new NRV, and after trying it all out, soldered the pump back into the tank. Here are some photos of the stove in operation. It is really powerful, as the final few pictures demonstrate...it is almost pushing the flamelets off the burner at full power! I guess the Radius 7 is a fairly conventional Primus 5-type stove, but I had never seen one before, and wanted to see what it was like..... Although this one is actually fitted with a Svea silent burner. It is a really well-made, Swedish, 2.25 pint stove. Best Regards, Kerophile
A very nice stove you have got there, and a nice fettle too! The pictures show the stove fitted with a standard silent burner, and you tells us it is a Svea burner. From this Radius catalogue it seems to me that the correct burner for this stove most likely is what Radius calls their "special" silent burner. Like this one Jan Rømsgård's No:7 shown here is fitted with the "special" silent burner.
Hi Arne, thank you for the kind words about the fettle. I do know that it should really have the Proper Radius special silent burner, and if I am ever able to get one I will certainly fit it. Best Regards, Kerophile
Hi, This afternoon I received the correct burner for my Radius No.7 stove. I immediately fitted it, and fired up the stove, for the Kerophile "Tea Test". Here are some photos: The Radius No.7 stove fitted with its "Radius Special" silent burner easily passed the Tea Test. This is a very stable, controllable burner. Here is a photo of the flame pattern with the burner on low-power: I am really pleased to have at last acquired the correct (as fitted in the factory) burner for my Radius No.7. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Hi, I was using my Radius 7, with special silent burner today to make some bread, and decided to take some more flame shots: This really is a most unusual burner and I think the flame pattern is really great! Best Regards, Kerophile.
George: I just found a Radius No. 7 in Sweden, which also requires to special Radius burner (I have a spare one here: the early version with the integral lighter tube that snakes around the spirit cup). I'm just as impressed by the Radius "Excellent" burner (used on the No. 3). Both are highly efficient and stable burners, proving that Radius was quite innovative..Peter
