Hi Cliff - it looks like it's been cleaned with an acidic cleaner at some point - I THINK what happens is the acid attacks the surface zinc leaving surface copper which burns off green and then eventually flame goes back to normal - but I might be wrong
Cliff I had the same colour flame on an old Primus when I light it for the first time.Made me think that someting wasn't right with the stove.I found out later that it was just residue in the tank.I kind of liked the look of the green flame :o I wonder what you could do to get it to burn green all the time Ernie
You could of course try to get Spudz buy you some AVIO in Italy. Have a look at this thread . Don't think I would recommend it tho
the green flame is interesting. i've seen it with all types of stoves and fuels: gas, kerosene and alcohol. the conclusion i have come to is impure fuel ,old fuel or additives in the fuel is the most likely cause of green flame. after cleaning the tank or fount in gas stoves i always use coleman fuel. in alcohol or kerosene stoves i use a pure high grade fuel. you will need to run a full tank of good fuel after cleaning to burn off impurities. on generator stoves i have had to clean the generator to achieve this on occasion. in my experience the key to a good clean hot blue flame is proper fuel, it save lots of grief down the road. 99% of the stoves that have been brought to me for repair over the years were fuel related problems. mike...
Hey, Flivver, I agree with you 10,000% (if there was such a thing!)!! I can't tell you how many otherwise great stoves I've bought, from folks at the swap meet, and paid only a few bucks for them. Then, when I got them home, they had been filled with the wrong fuel, or cheap crap fuel, by their previous owners. Empty the tanks, clean out, fill with good, fresh, clean fuel, and VOILA, worked like champs!! I always get a huge laugh out of all the folks that want to burn some fuel, other than that for which their stove was created, "just because", or "because it's cheaper"!! I rarely, if ever, have stove problems, mainly because I only use Coleman fuel, good Methylated Spirits, or water-white K-1 kerosene, in my stoves. Hey, it's worked for more than 30 years, and caused NO problems, whatsoever, so why give up on what works??!!! I'll let others "experiment" with alternative fuels, and then smile (knowingly) when they come to CCS, and ask, "why is my stove not running right?", and other such questions!! Each to his own, I guess..... ! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
After reading your thread aktopp I think I'll stick with the blue flame. My stoves and I will probably live longer without any green flames Ernie
Right after washing the tank out twice with kero its still green , looks like running a couple of tanks though it see how it goes . The other 111T running in the dark shot is the USMC stove running on meths very clean , "STOVE ON " Cliff
I actually like the hue. But as it was with other stoves, the longer I used it the sooner the flame turned blue. I reckon that all the metal particles (or chemical) were dissolved into the fuel, and no longer affect the fuel. It will turn blue in no time.
I would guess that if it is the stove,...and not the fuel,....you could correct it by polishing the outer burner cap with something mildly abrasive like Brasso. Just a guess though.
Hey, Twodogs, Now, that is a good looking 111T!! Well done, Mate! How many tanks of fuel have you burned through it, just for grins? The 111T is a robust, and reliable stove, which can do many things, and does them all well. Have fun with your's and congrats on your success with it. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Cliff, Previously you could honestly decribe your stove as burning green. Now it is patently not green and you are obviously destroying the plant. Shame on you Good fettle!
