… for my Primus No.405. Using this Primus in my newly-acquired Primus No.1154 stove shelter I hit a bit of a snag when using the stove’s pump. The stove’s a loose fit in the shelter, meaning that the pump cap or filler cap has to be held while pumping or the stove moves around. It gets a bit awkward as this photo shows. The photo also shows that the trivet is a bit lower than the top rim of the shelter, when a little bit above it would be ideal. The feet are of brass, strips of viton bonded with JB Weld to the surfaces of the feet that touch the shelter’s base and walls. I wanted them to be removable, hence the socket screws. Pressurising the tank is much easier, one hand on the body of the shelter (away from the burner obviously!) to steady it as the stove is pumped. The trivet is at a height I prefer too. John
Thanks fellas. Insofar as I didn’t want to damage the stove or shelter by drilling/tapping or otherwise making irreversible alterations to either, or both. A wooden ring, close-fitting to the base of the shelter and with blind holes in the ring corresponding to the feet of the stove would have been an easier solution. Overfilling the priming cup and igniting the alcohol unaware it’s spilled over (it happens) would be likely to set fire to a wooden ring however. A metal ring would be weighty (even in aluminium) laborious to cut and expensive.

I laughed when I reflected on my comment, “A metal ring would be weighty (even in aluminium) laborious to cut and expensive.” Fabricating those brass feet wasn’t the work of a minute, including cutting the curved part of the slots for the stove feet with a piercing saw. The difference is that if a project is fun and the enthusiasm is there to get the job done, detailed, painstaking work isn’t laborious.
