After a recent purchase of an old PRIMUS Stove, as a novice on such stoves, I sought assistance from this Group and with their help, I was thrilled to finally get it going! Thanks to all so willingly shared their knowledge to assist me to fire it up! This joy, the led me to purchase a 'bundle' of three old COMPANION Kerosene stoves! On purchase their working conditions were 'unknown'. I set about attempting to see whether I could get them working. I was able to fire up one of those stoves, following information gained from this Site and watching a few YouTube videos. I struck a problem with the second stove. The problem is that I noticed was that after completing the lighting up sequence there is always a flame in the spirit burner cup while the burner was operating, photo attached. I attempted to tighten the 19mm nut above the spirit cup and it tightened up slightly. However, this did not solve the problem. I then loosened the burner head and observed a washer/seal just below the burner, see photo. I suspect that this washer/seal is causing a constant kerosene leak into the spirt cup when the burner is in operation. The washer/seal appears to look that it has been a 'home made job'. Are there any ideas on how I can replace this particular part, purchased or, 'home made'? Once I am able to, hopefully, get this problem resolved I would like to gain more information on identifying their origin, there does not appear to be any Model Numbers or other identification marks to establish their identity. I believe that the COMPANION Stoves are Australian made and are a version of the original PRIMUS stoves. Looking forward to any assistance I can get on my new adventure with these stove, I think I am getting 'hooked' on these beautiful historic stoves! Thanks in advance, Andy
As Ben said, the site sponsor The Fettlebox will have the seals you need. If you get the kit for the Primus/Optimus No 1 or No 5 then you will have all the seals you need. Companion started as Australian built licenced copies of Svea stoves. I suspect that they continued on making their own stoves once the licence expired but an Australian stove expert will be along shortly to correct me if I'm wrong.
