Recently I came across an NRV removal problem that I had not encountered before. The first stove was a Hipolito #1 (slotted screw head NRV) And the second stove was a Coleman Solus (conventional NRV) Two days apart, on two different stoves I couldn’t remove the NRV. On each stove, it seemed, I was able to completely unscrew the NRV. But the NRV’s would not slide out. In each instance I used a ten-inch-long wire noose, made from the thinnest wire available to me. I slid the noose down the pump tube, over the head of the NRV. Next, I slid down the ½ inch CPVC pipe, that I use to center flat bladed screwdrivers, over the wire and NRV slotted screw head. The plastic pipe provides enough interference so that I could pull the noose tight. A further pull on the wire, and the NRV came right out.
I have found long reach forceps very effective and easy to use in situations like that. They are also handy for seating new/repaired NRVs nicely back place before tightening.
I find compressed air will shoot one across my shop...and think of all the fun looking for it amongst all the junk on the other side haha..
I've always used a length of wire with a hook bent on the end, poked through the ole in the pump valve body.
