My wife tried to buy me a stove. Not knowing too much about them....she apparently went to my stoves and picked one that she knows I like and tried to find me another one.
The stove she saw was the Austrian Phoebus 625...

What she bought was .. Well not from Austria but looked really close to it. I think these are from Taiwan. So much so the seller said it's was a Phoebus. Pissed off she wanted to return it but I stopped her.... This stove was unlike any I've seen as usually they look like 8R clones

It's a coil burner...and this one is has the coils welded like the Taykit so the gap stays the same ...cool idea.

Did it work .. Of course not... They never work so I got to taking it apart as much as I could to get it running .

The tank cap has a SRV pip in it... interesting!
I was also surprised it came apart really easy!

The pip on the left was what was in it... Lol...I punched a 5 out and put it back together.

I tried to blow air into the tank and heard nothing coming out the jet. Pricked it... Still nothing....so I filled it with carb cleaner...sealed the cap and held it in my hands... After a few seconds I got a few drops... Then a stream of brown looking crap... Then it squirt clean. I know of no other way to clean the coil... But this method has worked for me every time.

Now I let this go for about 20 minutes...and used the cleaner to wipe off the carbon....and it came pretty clean.

Next was to fuel it and light it up.... But it didn't work right and needed to be picked again. After it still ran kind of shitty...

So remembered that my Taykit runs away better with the windscreen I went to look at it...and it was in two pieces... apparently made that way. One half stays on... The "door" or cover pops on and off when you are going to put a cork or plug in it. Weird... But ok. I just used a brass brush to clean it and put it on after some straightening... It performed perfectly after this ..

All in all it works fine ..weird that the legs don't touch the table like the tank does... But it does seem to hold a pot. Not flimsy at all... Just never seen one of these before....

In the tin its about the size of a can of soda... Just fatter. I'm waiting for mild glue to set on the label and it will be all done!

    Cool huh?

Edit...I just noticed it said made in Taiwan on the label .. sometimes I miss things until later haha but don't we all

@JP2 you got me man...I have never seen one like this, but I assume there are tons of them out there. It definitely does need the heat shield...but most of the coil stoves I have need them to perform right.
    Thanks man!

Congrats Remus on your last fettle and for having a wife gifting you stoves. That particular model is not seen often at least by me since I scroll down ebay every single day lol, the more commons are the 8r and the Phoebus clone (don’t remember the model right now) nice flame by the way.

@Pancho Its a new one on me but I kind of like it! I think the SRV in the cap is kind of overkill, but seems to be a sturdy stove.

Remus1956, you have a good Phoenix, compact and powerful. Like almost all reel stoves. The reel is in excellent condition and round in cross-section.
I have a similar one, complete with a complete set, almost new. Even with the cardboard packaging. But the reel is warped and scorched in places. It looks more like copper than brass.
I haven't seen this condition on the Montagnino or Stesco, even though they've been around for a while.

@Andrey Sevastopol I think you are right about the coil material...when I brush it clean with a brass brush it returns to a copper color.
I like your montagnino and the blitz...
