image.jpg I have just found a primus No 54 marked AB so 1937.

The burner silent has the marking R or P 758 on one face of the hex and the number 24 on another any idea of the significance of the 24 ? is 758 part No. ?

I have looked in the reference library and can find nothing.

Should the burner cap be brass or steel and how many rows of holes?

I have seen reference to the 54 having the same burner as a No 4 is the correct?

This ones seen a fairly hard life as a lead Melter I think, all the air holes in the burner were clogged with lead, the pump tube cap plunger hole is worn oval and the NRV was impossible to remove without removal of the pump tube and all that entails, everything was as tight as can be.
One interesting thing ( a home spun mod?) the air screw tube had a dimple put in it to reduce the chance of the screw working loose and being lost?

Any thoughts on burner etc gratefully accepted.

As to the numbers and letters on the burner, there are very old discussions here that pondered whether they represented the date format, but they are very inconsistent with that thought.

I have no idea what they represent, except that it could some part of the manufacturing process.

    Cheers

Thanks @Tony Press for pointing me in the right direction with the burner.

I knew there was a lot of debate about the numbers stamped on burners a mystery that remains!

Since posting this I was all set to fire the 54 up last night and thought I would do a dunk test this revealed a stress crack halfway between the riser and the top of the curved edge of the tank!

Dammit this is the second stove in a row that's had them, I usually find them on the surface the legs are soldered to not on the top.

I've stripped off all useable parts and the fount will be going to the scrap heap in the sky what a pity!

Fingers crossed for the next find I really want a No.57. to pair up with a157 heat reflector.

I have used POR15 to successfully resolve stress cracks.
