My be helpful to someone just getting started with fettling a cap gasket. Old news to the rest of you. Some use torch but I use whatever stove is handy to burn away the old gasket on 3 piece caps. Found the Peak 1 will do the job the quickest. This 413D needed a new gasket while getting a bath. Photos' should give you the how to idea. The real star is that little awl. The little awl does good job with the painted one piece caps too.

I like a torch, quicker and don’t need to hold over a burner, setting the cap on some carbon felt or other item to keep heat from whatever it all is set on. I can move around the cap, getting the whole thing. Inserts also.

I like the torch too. Doesn't overheat a pliers tip but does the job. Charlie

I just warm it enough to soften it.
