This is a Shields-marketed stove. It has no Shields decal or other identification, but it came with these Shields Instructions. It has some very interesting features, but I should point out first that I have another stove with the same case, fuel tank and pot grid, but it is fitted with Primus regulated burners, and its case is stamped (embossed pressing), “Strathmore”. The regulated burners are unique. They look similar to Australian Companion and Aladdin burners, but are shorter, have some different threading, and unique pricker racks. I consider the burners were made in Australia, but I don’t know by whom. The tank is very large at 21cm x 14cm. I put 2.75 litres of kerosene in it. The pump is a Tilley pressure lamp pump copy similar to those used on Kayen and Stormaster lamps. The stove case is very well made, but the full assembly of the stove is very fiddly with the 6 chrome trims on the top of the case, and the tight space for positioning the tank and mounted burners. The regulated burner The Shields burner (left) next to a Companion burner. The pricker and regulator. The fuel tank is large, and made of steel with a brass fitting for the pump. The burners are fitted like Aladdin burners with free floating spirit dishes. Steel spirit dishes More to come...
Up and running The stove also had this well crafted, homemade funnel. It is very handy for getting the alcohol into the priming dishes. I will probably keep this a shelf Queen, as there’s only one known at the moment. But I will get the “Strathmore” going and use it. Cheers Tony
The “Strathmore” version of this stove. A big thanks to @Rodger Willows whose eagle eyes spotted the Shields stove, and whose van transported the Strathmore (ex Bernie Holmes). Cheers Tony
@Tony Press , a very nice piece of Australiana. Well restored as usual. The stove looks like this advertisement; which is a facsimile I recreated from the original. The number of bars in the grill seems different though.
