Thanks all. I will do some form of a dunk test today and set about making a burner plate. So far it looks like I don't have any paid work today so I might have time to give the burner plate a go if I can find something brass that is not in use.

So I can either install an overhead fan, help somebody with a cracked joist in a garage, mow the lawn or make a burner plate...

Looking through a stash of the former owner of this house, no longer with us, I found this stuff, The sink drain is new and unused. We shouldn't need to use this because I just replaced all the parts of a sink.

The hatchet is kind of cool. I should be able to get a burner plate out of the brass tube on the drain.

Made the burner plate. It saved me a lot of money as opposed to buying one from Ebay if you consider my hourly wage at about $0.75/Hr USD. Just finished the dunk test after keeping the stove in the freezer for a while then dunking it in this pan of hot tap water. Bubbles came up pretty quickly from the filler cap and an occasional bubble from the relief valve. Guess I need to buy some more stuff.

Thanks I have actually sent off for those. Another link, which I think you provided for the Penta key, got back to me to say they have no flights coming into the U.S. at this point so they are refunding my money.

I will have to attempt to fashion my own key which would probably take 6 months and 200 ruined Allen wrenches before getting it right or apparently there are security bits which are pentagon shaped. Has anyone tried any of those? Would a trip to Menard's or Home Depot or Harbor Freight be worth it?

The truth about the burner plate above is that if you saw it up close, it looks more like a 7th grade shop project that earned a C- and a note from the instructor to be more careful next time.

Thanks for the link. Luckily they provide dimensions for the penta tool. It is bigger than the pentagon shape on the stove but at $1.29 each I think I will buy a couple and try to file to size. They are located in Wisconsin so they should be shipping. I will let you know how it turns out.

Just got a windscreen from Ebay. As you can see from the picture, the burner is off center but I don't think messing with that is wise.

slight drift. You've not got it ready for camping yet.
You started a post re fuel bottles on couple day bicycle trip (when you do get out there). I have a comment there but fuel bottles relates to filling. The latter I thought I'd comment here.

Your 123 tank size is .33 liter but like all pressure stoves, over-fill and she's no good. "One filling" is .25 liter (burns 45 mins).
You can carefully fill, little by little peaking down the fill tube as to not overfill (what I did for decades, tedious that and more often spill). "Actually", with tank level, if you just slosh it in once (til it spills out) it will only be slightly overfull because the filler tube extends down into the tank to prevent overfilling.

I have a hint I do and I spill but fill to perfect level in 1 quick shot:
Prop up the tank opposite the fill tube (AA battery / 14mm is perfect tilt height, no less). Tilted as such, slosh it in 'til she 'til she spills out.

Set tank level, done, filled to perfect level in one shot and again has to be at least that high, shorter than 14mm and it is slightly overfull, taller than 14mm is fine but just less than perfect level (a lil low is all).

    and you will want instructions.

Someone kindly sent me a cap with a square key. I disassembled the cap and put it in vinegar as suggested. Waiting for delivery of pip and gasket.

Should the spring be changed out just because it is old? Doesn't the metal go wonky over the years? should I leave it alone after replacing pip and gasket?

    @Doug W

Don’t leave the cap in vinegar loo long.

If the spring looks good, just stretch it 10 to 15% before putting it back together.

Got the fuel cap washer and pip from the Fettlebox and installed them yesterday. Got my first blue flame and tiny roar sound. Thanks to all for your help.
