This Enders ‘Cobold’ alcohol burner was likely manufactured from the mid-1950’s to mid-1960’s. The only other example in the SRG is the one posted by Iani in 2013. @Knee ’s superb Enders catalogue posting (5th photo/left hand page) shows a likely earlier version of the ‘Cobold’ No.9091, with the adjacent No.9093 model using the same design triple leg support as on my ‘Cobold’ model and Iani’s, but with a different design (screw-top) alcohol burner. The penned price label on the burner lid and corresponding price written in pencil on the box shows a cost of 3 Deutsche Marks and 15 Pfennigs. With the ‘Triple Legs’ support in the ‘closed’ position - is there a gentle nod to the ‘E’nders logo perhaps? Triple legs support opened up. The burner is held snugly into the support legs. Burner lid and riveted handle. Burner lid handle ‘stamping’ on the reverse side. Burner and inner (alcohol) aperture. Burner base. The box details user instructions in three languages: German, English and French - and so an export model for those two markets. What is interesting is that on the front of my box, the Enders model number has been mis-printed as ‘No.9901’. Iani‘s box however shows the correct model number ‘No.9091’. Looks as if the printers were not having a good day when my box was printed…’STOWE’ …same misspelling on Iani’s box as well. Interesting branding choice of using ’Etna’ for the French export market instead of the ‘E’nders logo, as in the above picture for the local German market. Pharael.
@Pharael Looking at the Enders catalogue posted by @Knee recently your Cobold may have been mislabelled in the catalogue the 9093 looks more like your Cobold than the catalogue one (9091) check it out? A miss print?
@nmp - If you take a look at the catalogue post of @Motoshi Makino https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/1950s-or-60s-enders-catalogue.9551/ (5th photo l/h side) …and that of @Spiritburner https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/1952-53-enders-catalogue.9029/ 2nd photo r/h page, the representations of the 9091 and 9093 are the same as in @Knee ’s catalogue posting…https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/enders-cataloqe-1950-60.57743/ (5th photo l/h side). In the 1958 Enders Catalogue posted by Courtesy of www.thesamba.com (page 6) https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/1958-enders-catalogue.159/ shows my aluminium 9091 model (and Iani’s) both with the separate three leg support and clip-on lid with handle. The 9093 in this catalogue is the brass version. Pharael.
An interesting find. The sheer number of Enders products that were refined over a short period of time, along with their numbering, can sometimes be difficult to figure out. Add to that some printing errors, and you really have to work hard to identify them. It’s great that you managed to find a copy like this in pristine condition! There’s something to that. .
Thanks for sharing at perfect time when Enders catalog showed up too. Good observation about the 'E' silhouette shape. Great find with box and alcohol stove is so easy to pack and use.
@Daryl - Thanks very much Daryl. It was @Knee ’s Enders Catalogue posting which galvanised me to post this little beauty.
