For this topic readers best do the homework first, there are PLENTY of P71 details / answers that are already readily available on the site. Use the site search function it is very good, more below.

Do the homework... 1. it's best to get familiar with the Primus No:71 category found in the Reference Gallery. Hint A&B for the Reference Gallery:
Hint A: In gallery >sweden >Primus... find, select your model eg >"Primus No. 71".
Scroll to bottom of page 1.
    Click on "thread display options".
    Select "alphabetical".
    Select "ascending".
Doing this will sort your search results by year (those w/yr in the title, the vast majority. credit to Ross, Trevor and mods). It is now easy to scroll/find specific years to compare with.
Hint B. i "suggest, please" do not initiate Q&A in the Reference Gallery, per site: (there's no "Q&A") Reference Gallery: "Post your stove pictures here. A selection of shots of the stove, tin etc would be appreciated to see the different features."
Other non-Reference categories DO welcome "Q&A"... Stove Forum is just 1 example.

Do the homework... 2 find the year(s) of P71s in gallery with details that exactly match your example (lettering, tank lid, rizer, tin...

Do the homework... 3. did your P71 come with a tin and is your tin dated? Dated tins VERY rare btw, so probably not. If yes, jump ahead to lines discussing dates on ***tins.

Do the homework... 4A. did you find details of your Primus 71 match those 1957 - 63 (but NO DATE on bottom of tank, bottom is blank).
Do the homework... 4B. you confirm there is no date code on the tank's collar --> P71datetemp.JPG
    more collar detail

Do the homework... 4C. you confirm there is no *"H" stamped on bottom of the tank. If there is an H on bottom and NO date code, there are several examples of same (*more): undated Primus 71s, stamped H . certainly the "H" thread is relevant BUT
*undated "H" examples are also still undated P71s and this thread continues on that front.
If you've done all your homework above with undated (c.57-63) P71 in-hand (not on the web) and question(s) remain...

...if you've done your homework (correctly)
and the answer is not found above
and your tin is not dated ...60 (***see below), and if i havent lost you.

Well then, your undated P71 would be a 1958-60.

Here is break down of years of my title, Undated Primus 71s 1958-60 :

1958 there are bottom dated 1958 examples (scarce few) but back when this topic was top of mind i held position that late 1958 examples could have been (or were likely?) undated.

1959 there are ZERO dated examples so far (correction welcome), fair to assume 59s were undated (not on bottom of tank, not on collar).
1959 NOTE: there are 1959 instructions. An undated P71 "with" '59 instructions, for me, would be 1959/60.

    > 1960 P71_ undated, i suggest (similar to '58) there were some early 1960 P71s that were undated. period. That and if undated P71 was not (or is no longer) paired w/ a (dated) tin, see next line.
    > ***1960 P71L (in tin) there are some bottom not dated, inside the tin is dated ....60 (we see 3 so far, 2 with "H" on bottom of tank [3rd doesnt show tank bottom]).
    > 1960 P71_ there are some collar dated ...60 examples (scarce few). Fair to "suggest"? these are late 1960 examples.

    FYI
    1961 & 62 examples are collar dated ...61 & ...62.
1963 was 1st year the "Primus 71" manufacturing moved to the Optimus plant (means different tank, 63-on P71s were 100% Optimus-made. Yet, notable "Primus" everywhere, "Optimus nowhere on stove, packaging or paper).
Dating c. 1963 onward iirc, was method Optimus factory used, 6 digit code but only an ink stamp on the cardboard box.
    i gotta run

side note: already in-use in '56 "A B BAHCO" on box & on instructions as shown here 1956 Primus 71 (unused)
    ------
    all, @Pharael
relevant to the Primus No.71 (undated) that Pharael just posted. Congrats, well done and excellent addition to the Reference Gallery.

just above i suggest details that match year range:
    late 1958 -to- early 1960

it seems we can narrow that further
first i note 2 matching, dated 1958 examples:
    1958 Primus 71 +Tin date 1957 and
this one 1958 Primus No:71L <-- shows us, what i suggest:
"early 58 -to-? "B.A.Hjorth & Co" on front of tin. (original label)

later, an undated 71 seen here Found an old Primus in mint condition in my grandpas basement
    shows us
some time after early 1958 "AB BAHCO" on front of tin. (original label)

then, seen here, RARE example (1 so far) Primus 71L - age please?
what i suggest seems to be an early 1960 "AB BAHCO" on front of tin. (original label)

for terminology i suggest (if example has original tin w/original label)
"1958-59" for examples with earlier B.A.Hjorth on tin and
"late 1958 -to- early 1960" for examples with AB BAHCO on tin.

    gotta run 410 views
