    I was very excited to find this two days ago in New Norfolk, TAS…

    IMG_3923.jpeg

    It was in very good original condition:

    The NRV is VERY large in comparison with a “standard” NRV:

    I’ve made several (unsuccessful) attempts to replace the NRV pip and eventually decided to attempt a fire-up without changing it given the state of the other seals.
    The steel tank didn’t produce any debris when rinsed out.
    The pump-rod was missing the plunger assembly.
    Time to attempt a fire-up:

    Too light outside , so I brought it in and put a pot on:

    The pump rod slowly progressed out, but as I’d only partially filled the tank I wasn’t too worried:

    No “sooting”:

    Plenty of noise and heat output:

    Coming “home” with me on the front seat:

    The NRV has gone back into “Penetrene” for further attention…

    Thanks!

    Certainly different, and well made. Fortunate that the steel tank is in excellent shape cosmetically too!

    I take it the burner is a lipstick arrangement? Those flame shots are great, it certainly puts the heat out!

    Nice stove and burning well. Good to see that it came with original chocolate spill tray. Nice write-up and pics.

    @Gabriel Lorin

    Why do you say “the fuel tank should be brass”?

    SUCCESS!!!

    I’ve managed to dismantle the NRV:

    IMG_3961.jpeg IMG_3962.jpeg

    This stove certainly has some unique features!

    The burner as detailed in the articles above, but the NRV is also very distinct:

    IMG_3963.jpeg

    The NRV (as depicted above) is very large by comparison and yet screws into the end of a “standard” diameter pump tube.
    Fortunately I was able to punch out a replacement NRV seal from HDPE to replace what appears to be the original lead washer.
    The pip which existed was cut from 1/4” (6.3mm) material which meant the pip extended 3mm beyond the end of its carrier.
    This is combined with the face that the pip approximates to for creating the occlusion being the same diameter (or larger) than the pip itself and flat-faced.
    There is no tapering of the threaded end of the NRV.
    This presented me with another challenge as the thickest Viton pips I have are 3mm.
    Solution: Replace the pip-carrier with one from The Fettlebox, which has the Viton pip extending partially beyond the carrier enabling a seal to be created.

    So I fired it up again to check my seal (really, it was to hear the noise, see the glow and feel the heat)!

    IMG_3967.jpeg

    IMG_3968.jpeg

    It sure has plenty of all those!

    Thanks!

    Rodger

    @Gabriel Lorin

    The tank is “passivated” steel (as detailed in the other Reference Gallery postings of this stove), which I’m fortunate to not have any internal rust issues with.

    @Sellig33

    It sure does!

    @Blackdog

    Thanks! Yesterday I’d boiled it, heated/quenched and continued soaking in Penetrene… In the early hours it occurred to me to try the wood-clamping trick. Yes it goes well!

    I'm glad I'm not the only one who wakes in the night with stoves on my mind... Or even gets up at 3am to try something out ...

    @Tony Press I thought best stoves quality wise are either brass or stainless steel 304 when it comes to fuel tank. you tell me how it is
