Also, I did not try yet but with a silence of 8R on top, it may work !!!!!!! but still maybe to low. Which one is a bigger size silence burner ?
Be careful about using a heat exchanger pot or kettle on this stove. I tested the one I just got out and as the legs aren't wide enough to let it stand on the outer rim of the kettle, the flames contacted the fins at maximum power and I could see some white fuel vapors exiting from the exhaust cutouts and some condensate buildup that dropped off the fins. Lifting the kettle off solved the problems I had. I may have to cut some pieces of brass tubing to extend the supports so they support my specific kettle and other heat exchanger pots I have in my collection will probably be necessary for full power operation.
I don't think alcohol is even needed to get this started after watching a Svea 123 startup video which involved using hand warming of a tank to get some fuel into the bell and valve body. Lightly using a jet lighter to warm the valve/burner body or alternatively just applying a few seconds (less than 5!) of heat on the tank and then running the valve to the point the needle comes out will pump a little bit of fuel out that splashes the jet and inside of the bell. With that initial bit of white gas I find that after ignition it will get it eventually warm enough that the valve can be cracked open to start off a weak yellow jet that will soot the inside of the burner hell and splash plate which serves to start the heating process. After a while of heating (maybe a minute or a few) the flame turns blue with the associated roar and the soot burns off the inside in normal operation. The tank and valve body remains clean and free of any soot and the alcohol bottle isn't needed except for the sake of a quick start but I think I'll stick with blasting the brass valve of it with a jet lighter for a little longer.
You don't need alcohol to prime any white gas stove I know of. One appeal of white gas as a fuel is that no separate priming fuel is necessary. Many people on this site prefer to use alcohol to prime because there is less sooting than with white gas. I don't believe I've ever primed a white gas stove with anything other than white gas. ....Arch
Well with the Lixada it seems that the same method of gently warming the tank (by jet lighter anyways) like a Svea, it can be primed with the white gas and minus any sooting aside from the initial soot that builds up inside the burner bell and splash plate which is then burned off. The jet never gets dirty nor does the valve body. Said video on the 123 which involves using white gas to prime without sooting is this one: I just skipped the step of letting the fuel flow down the valve body and find that with patience it'll be enough to crack the valve open afterwards to continue letting fuel out to keep a small weak yellow flame to warm the bell up.
I've primed the 123s with hand warming/white gas now and then, but my usual method on the trail is alcohol, which I find easier. I just carry a small bottle in the sidepocket of the pack for priming purposes. Four or 5 oz size. I use the Sigg set always, so I put the stove in the bottom of the set first; perhaps if I used the stove without the set I'd do the handwarming method.
@JP2 wick is very weak... demo-version of it))) but. its working. Its disadvantage is that it does not use all the gasoline from the tank. Im disassabled-repaired lixada (had a bad thread tank-burner seal). Saw IT... I have experience in repairing a PT-1 primus (Optimus 8R ussr clone, in my picture), so made for lixada a normal wick from a cotton bandage.
I've just done some price checks on the Lixada and the APG stoves, in Britain:- The APG is on E-bay.co.uk for US$109 (appr. £82), free delivery; on Amazon (UK) it's £49.80, inc. free delivery. The Lixada on E-bay is £48, or with the cooking kit, £54. Couldn't find it on Amazon. Gunner PS, if you want links, please ask - my dinner's ready to dish up!
