Vht paint?

And there was me thinking you were talking about milk

 

G,,day that same thought went through my head.
i might have my occasional "moments" but i am not bad enough yet to paint a trivet with long life uht milk. does someone want to try it as an experiment, might smell when baking it in the oven to cure it!!!!

thanks! As I said just wondering. A friend of mine, with more money than I, had his automobile exhaust manifolds porcelainized I suppose that would work, but OH the cost.

 

Thats not uncommon on hot rods. Have to machine very carefully and allow for the thickness of the coating but it doesnt go blue like chrome and stainless.

 

uht milk is cheap.
laugh at my self.
and you could just let the exhaust bake it

this must be terminal topic drift.
My comments on the hot rods was for the porcelain coating on exhaust manifolds. There has been a few French and optimus stoves with complete pocelain finishes that are as good now as when they were made.
I think uht milk would just create lots of smelly smoke.
Uht paint should of worked for the heat but it lacks resistance to oils and acids that overflow from pots.

Update:

Well I went for it with the plastikote fast dry enamel (thanks John) and my own little tryout too.

First I wiped the ring with cellulose thinners, next I sprayed it with a black VHT paint, then a coat of plastikote black gloss enamel...

Today I fired her up and roasted some chestnuts, the paint smelled a little at first like you would expect, then very small bubbles in the hottest areas, these I think just burst and flattened out again.. The pan ring paint was a littles soft to the touch (ouch burnt fingers)...

But it held well and didn't stick to the bottom of my pan, and now it is cured it should be harder for next time and so on!

I'm very pleased with the result of this paint and it is still quite glossy too... Overall a fantastic result.

I think if i did that ....

1. My wife would have given me a funny look

2. If the cellulose had ignited i'd be in hospital

3. but the glossy finish may have been better than the original colour

4. As for roasting chesnuts thats just showing off

They work though in a pan with a sprinkling of water 8)

 

G,,day i have bead blasted the trivet again.
this time i painted with an 850 degree celcius stove paint, matt black. still a pressure pack.
air dry (summer in the sun) for a day. it is currently on the stove with a pan of lead on it.
seems to be standing up to it.

very slight burning off close to center of trivet.
basically only on the inner projections.
so far i am happy with it.
i cant tell you a brand, it is sort of no brand.

Well I used your technique John with the black gloss fast dry enamel!
Plus I have also used the brass fast dry enamel by plastikote with the same results :-) top coated with the plastikote clear gloss, which gives a nice look...

Am I right in thinking that the original colours are gloss brass and black ?

Agree with engine block or (better) exhaust manifold automotive paint - only stuff I've seen here (Canada) that can take direct flames !! Comes in red/grey/black/alum colors. But need to follow complex instructions for best result.
