Naked Primus 71

I bought a couple of stoves a few weeks ago: a Svea 123 and a Primus 71. The 123 fits in a nice Sigg Tourist set but the 71, without a tin, is an orphan. It burns just fine but I have no practical means to support a pot over it. Any suggestions?

 

What about some ducting or some stove pipe cut to the the right length?

 

Here is a stove that recently sold at auction here. I think the idea is good but more suited to a steel tank stove. It really should have a heat shield inside the stand.

Thanks Manny....I just spent 20 minutes or so looking and didn't find it. Just like my glasses, my pipe, the last beer I opened and where in the hell is that cup of coffee I made a minute (now an hour) ago.

Brilliant! I actually thought about soldering tubes to the fount but I like the idea of the brass band much better. There is a good pun in that last sentence but I just can't quite pull it out.

 

Some time ago I had a bare 71, and was searching for a makeshift pot stand. My improvised solution was simply a piece of stiff wire mesh, rolled into a cylinder around the stove. It does not provide wind protection, but worked like magic in calm weather. I still have it tucked in my garage. I'll re-create the scene and will post a photo sometime soon.

OK, I found the wire mesh pot rest, and got it on my Primus 71. I realized that a wind shield is as close as my wife's roll of aluminum foil, so that was added. The original thing was cut to the size of the Radius 42, which is slightly shorter. Thus the pot is sitting a bit too close to the flame. Here it is:

Everytime I see photos of water boiling, it looks like ice water. Right?

Seems to me something about the size of a 28 oz. stewed tomato can could be used as a starting point. Maybe some kind of door or perhaps holes for venting. One end would be opened normally with a can opener, and the other could have a smaller hole cut with snips approximating the hole on a Primus 71 or Optimus 80 tin. The only thing that would remain would be a pot support, perhaps a small ring made from hardware cloth about an inch high? I've done stuff like this before. Something along the lines of this, but with the vent holes configured differently...
