Hi, Today was rather special, as I received from a Norwegian stove-friend a rare "Radius Special" silent burner. I had wanted one of these long-obsolete burners for some time, to allow me to complete my Radius No.7 stove. I couldn't wait to get the two together to make a cup of tea! I have posted some additional photos in the Reference Gallery: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/radius-no-7.8876/#post-110782 What a great Burner! The flame-pattern is a work of Art. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Looks very nice indeed George! A bit special too, like a silent burner with a hat on top . It also looks as if the side is not straight, but conical, am I right? Also, how old would the burner be (approx)? Congrats with yet another very nice stove . Regards, Wim
Hi Kerophile, Congratualtions on your score. All seems to be in great working order after all these years! Cheers, Graham.
Excellent, George! I'm so glad you were able to put this one right. I'll bet you're liking that burner and I look forward to your comments on it's performance. It's certainly an interesting design. Cheers, Gary
Hi Thanks to everyone for their kind comments and especially to Arne Kare, the man who made it possible. The "special silent" burner is shown in both the 1932 and 1950s Radius catalogues, alongside the more conventional silent burner we are all familiar with. The performance claimed for the two silent burner types is essentially identical, so I guess some customers just preferred the more exotic "specials". Wim, if you look at Page 5 of the 1932 Catalogue there is a nice illustration of the "Special" silent burner: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/202 Best Regards, Kerophile.
That is a very nice looking burner. It looks powerful when comparing the vapo tubes to the silent upper output portion. Very nice flame pattern too. You are quite fortunate to have found a burner, and congratulations on getting the stove back to operational status. Regards, Doug
Hi first post. I couldn't resist asking a question. It's the most interesting burner I've seen yet. Does the 'fedora' come off the top of the burner? If so, can you show pictures of that? Cheers, Sam
Welcome to CCS Sam! Have a look at this Radius 21 : Link . One of the pics shows the burner with it's hat lifted.
Thank you Arne I appreciate the link and the welcome. There's a lot fun stuff to look at here, especially the weird and unusual burners like this one. What will be dug up out of the attics, yard sales and antique shops next??? Sam
What a lovely "mushroom" burner!!! Whish I had one too, looks great when burning. Why on earth did they stop making those? Anders
Hi Lovely stove and a special burner. If my memory do not fail me, I think I have a Svea stove with a silent burner like in the photos. Unfortunately the stove is in our cabin. I will check it out during the holidays. Regards Jens
