Hello everyone, well i managed to fix it, i got the tube out, unsoldered an end cap off a blower pump for the nrv and thread, resoldered it onto the end of meva tube and soldered the tube back into tank, fired it up and WOW it lives again first time soldering, its a bit messy but it will clean up with some messing around, Isnt it fun messing around with these old things.

Hi ronph Im really surprised how easy it was, the small blower was great, i just took it easy and it went well, I didnt know that if you heated it to much the solder just runs off when trying to resolder though, had to call a friend for advice on that one, But this plasterer/painter has no experence with soldering and i managed to do it, so yay me it opens up a whole new world on fettling, most fun you can have with your pants on i reckon
a superb fettle cazna and congratulations on removing the pump with out melting the leg that is so close to the pump .A real good idea using a micro torch and another true classic put back into use well done there
Brilliant! Now you have the Meva nrv out, and you can see it, can you see any clues as to how it was meant to be removed?
Well no i cant see how you could get it out, it is threaded but you cant get a grip on the end of it, i put it in the vice and tryed to twist it off with pliers but it wouldnt move at all, I think the only way is to remove the tube and get to the back of nrv for servicing??? strange way of making an nrv, hardly user friendy and not very practical? there must be an easier way i didnt pick up on. Still i had a lot of fun fixing it and i learnt something so all good i reckon
It would seem you have found the easiest way to fettle that particular NRV but in the future the proper way is to use an NRV tool. Either manufactured or homemade. As you have learned the three primary rules of soldering are, 1. Clean, 2. clean and 3. clean. Did i mention the joint must be clean? Good and to keep it clean you use flux to eliminate oxygenation from the joint. Now of note, any soldering done "at home" as opposed to in a factory, which does not leak air is a good soldering job. Yes, with practice and more practical experience you will get "cleaner" joins but this is a good one as it stands. Well done. lance
I think the issue with this one is that the top of the valve looks to be directly soldered to the bottom of the pump.
