First, I would like to say that I wish I had the woodworking skills that some members have shown. There is nothing quite like a well crafted wood box to house a fine brass stove. Given my lack of talent in that direction, I was looking around for an easier answer. I discovered on ebay that someone was selling Makita tool boxes originally intended for cordless tools. The dimensions were just right for my 1.75pt kerosene/paraffin stove (Butterfly 2412). Below are the photos that show the box and my full rig. The box even has enough room for two burners, a small fuel bottle, meth bottle, and 10-panel windscreen. This is the package the box was shipped in. Stove box open to show how everything fits. In the Navy we called this a 'static display'... As you can see, plenty of room. The pocket on the lid is perfect for the trivit and spares kit. The 10-panel windscreen is a perfect fit for the box. The windscreen is in the black pouch at the bottom of the box. Rubber feet are a nice feature. Rubber feet on the side allow this box to be stacked. I liked the case so much I bought a second for my Optimus 45 stove. Still working on that stove and will need some parts before I can safely store in a box (no travel cap for where the burner fits). Here you see the boxes stacked. Hope you enjoyed my photos! Stu Sanford
Well done there Stu a brilliant idea that box is perfect for the purpose of a stove even has space for extra fuel we would think it was made for it
Hi Stu, You have come up with a really neat solution for classic stove transit/storage boxes. They look to be good quality. Base-Camp have reserve caps for your Op.45: #2050 Reserve lid for 00, 45, 48, 210, 100/4128, 210 £ 4.75 GBP. You need to have Viton or Nitrile washer as well. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Morning, Stu, Outstanding idea, Mate! It's also easy-peasy, which makes it doubly attractive!! I'll have to see about the availability of boxes that like here in the US. I love how it offers such easy accessibility, yet protects the stove like a small vault!! Very good idea, and just about perfect in practice, too. Thanks for sharing it with us. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Had a bit of loose change so I ordered one for my Radius17. Will take some pictures how it fits inside. Ron
Good for you, Ron. I grabbed a couple myself. Thanks for the tip, Stu. These look really good and might find use for other storage if not for stoves. Cheers, Gary
you guys are bad for me. I just bought one. I have spent way to much money since joining this forum...I'm so broke but I do have a ton of cool stuff in my barn now. hahahahahaha Told the wife she is not allowed in there...man cave.
Crap but i hate it when someone else makes a score like this and i'm left holding the stove in me hand and not a storeroom in sight. Since there is no more room in the dungeon right now it's going to be months until i can search one out. Buggers. Well Done stu sanford i'm lance
All, Thanks for the complements! I forgot to mention, the light blue/green material is pieces from a sleeping pad that I inserted in the bottom to give some cushion and also to take up some room and keep the gear from rattling around. Stu Sanford
Evening, Stu, and All, I just bought two of these for myself, as I'd asked the seller if he would accept other payment than PayPal, which I will no longer use. I haven't used them for more than a year, now, and have had not a single problem in paying for whatever I've purchased on 'the bay. When I got my invoice, and a very nice reply from the seller, I told them I would post their contact info here, so that other Stovies could find them, and buy some of these neat Makita boxes! His eBay ID is: jackscoolstuff Check out his listings, and see if you might want to avail yourselves of this great box, too. So far, they have been great with correspondence, and very amenable to working with buyers. I'll be calling them tomorrow, with my credit card info, and they are shipping my order for free!! Doesn't get any better than that, Stovies!! 8) If any of our regular overseas Stovies are interested in this, please let me know, and if I can help you, I'd be happy to do so, though shipping might be a bit high, due to their size. Thanks, again, to Stu, for posting his finding of these neat Makita tool boxes, and showing us all how to best make use of them for stoves!! Well done, Stu!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
How many is a couple? 1 dozen Its like a flu, very contagious - remember the 111T stove going for under $50 that sold out in a day? Ron
Oh, Ron. You silly guy! A couple is only two. I left plenty for others. I look forward to receiving them. I have to confess they look so nice I might have other ideas on what to put in them. Cheers, Gary
Excellent buy! When I first saw the post, I visualised a plastic case, but these are decent ones with proper hinges! .
Hey, Guys, Just got another note from Jack and Gail, the sellers of this neat Makita box, and they gave me the OK to post further contact information for them. If you prefer to call them with a credit card, or any other contact with them, here is the extra info: Jack & Gail Email: customerservice@heltontool.com Phone: 480-398-2495 eBay ID: jackscoolstuff They seem like great folks, and the communication is first rate, as is this product! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Oh, dang. You got me Ron! Yep. I need somewhere safe to stash all my mascara, foundation and lipsticks for "Coming Out Night" at the OSG. Cheers, Gary
Ha ha ha Gary you love to really ride it out the joke don't you Anyway, look what was waiting at my doorstep when I arrived. Cant wait to try out different stove or stoves to fit this nice case. Am impressed....if not for too much purchases, I may have to get one more Ron
Hey, Ron, My two came yesterday, and I think they are the BB's, especially for the selling price!! Many thanks to Stu, for sharing his neat find with the rest of us!! The seller told me that he and his crew wondered why they sold so many in one day, and was really tickled when I told him why, and about CCS. I sent him the web address, so he could check us out! (If you're out there, Jack, thanks a ton for the neat Makita boxes!!) 8) 8) Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Hey Doc, they make good emergency kits me think, stove, lamp, water, fuel, food that stows away nicely in the trunk of the car. Have to think out which ones should go into the kit including first aid etc etc etc. Ron Update: My daughter got home and saw the box (she draws and have a lot of coloring pens ) The box is sequestered and no longer in my possession......have to wait till next week to replenish my funds
