Nice one Gary. I've wanted to get along to one of your gatherings for a while and something's always cropped up to prevent me. This time for sure ...

    Right lads
A change from previous years, this year we will be holding on saturday afternoon ((before the drinking starts)
"The CCS Great British Bake Off".
There will be a magnificent prize for the winner (yet to be blagged) judged by our celebrity panel. :^o
As the title would suggest the theme is British therefore your stove/oven combination, cooker needs to include at least one (preferably exclusively) British element, a separate prize for most innovative combined cooking appliance will be awarded.
Sorry, no gas (that's butane, propane etc. to be clear).

All competitors will cook the standard Bero Book cheese scone. As below:

    175 g (6 oz) Self Raising Flour
    pinch salt and pepper
    1 x 2.5 ml spoon (½ tsp) mustard powder
    25 g (1 oz) margarine
    75 g (3 oz) cheese, grated
    1 medium egg
    2 x 15 ml spoon (2 tbsp) milk

1 Heat oven to 220ºC, 425ºF, Gas Mark 7. Grease a baking tray.
2 Mix flour and seasonings, rub in margarine. Stir in cheese, reserving a little for the top.
3 Mix to a soft dough with the egg and milk, reserving a little for glazing.
4 Roll out to a round 1.5 cm (½ inch) in thickness and cut into 8 triangles.
5 Place on the baking tray and brush with egg and milk and sprinkle with cheese. Bake for about 10-15 minutes until golden brown.

Hell's Bell's Gary  I was thinking about coming up from Dorset until you threw out that challenge  . Not sure that I can compete at that level, but will always stand in as a guest judge ;) if I can make it there. Does the said recipe go well with Sloe Gin :?: Will try to get up, is all I can say at the moment.  Steve.

If Steve's going I will be there. He converted me at Ashover to a sloe gin aholic. It's wonderful stuff. :D

Could you pop round to Hugh's (Fearnley-Whittingstall) and ask him if he'll be a judge?
    Lives near you doesn't he?
Everyone is welcome, we even allow people from as far south as Darlington to turn up. :)

Would love to Gary, but since Hugh's Barn Conversion Restaurant burnt down it is off limits to lampies and stovies  Honest Gov! I was nowhere near the place :-$ Steve

Can you just turn up or do you have to book?

If there's any one wants to go from Chester/Wirral/Liverpool area please PM me.

Just turn up - no need to book - and it'll be great to see you!

Possibly it might be worth a PT to Gary (Redspeedster) if you intend to camp-out (i.e. camp-in) overnight, although it's a big enough place and I can't see space would be limited.

Y'know, I would love to come!

I may just be travelling north through the country that week, I'm doing a grand tour collecting and viewing miscellaneous bits of archaic machinery :D . I may be able to time it right to call in for the afternoon/night.

Do you anticipate many staying the night? It sounds like good crack!

I take it, it would be bring your own bottle, or case for that matter.....

Oh, do you think the vicinity is trailer-friendly and a reasonably good area?

    Alec.

Hi Garry, They look yummy   Is there any close-by parking :?: Doing my best to get there via Nottingham, NE Lincolnshire and same return route   As said on CPL, will not have much room for swap stuff, or exhibits, but will very much enjoy seeing you all again. Happy New Year - Steve.

    Sorry missed your post.
Your assumptions are right, all welcome, bring a bottle. If previous years are anything to go by a fair few will be staying.
The area is residential have a look at google earth.
We've parked trailers here before, as to whether it is a good area, I'm probably not the best to judge that.

By popular demand I had another go today but this time mixed & kneaded everything in a zip-lock bag to save getting my fingers clarted up.

Thanks Gary, Ross is obviously taking the bake-off seriously as he has had two practice sessions now    I may have a go this weekend but do not have a stove oven so will be using a very ancient griddle plate and a biscuit tin :D It should be interesting :-$ Steve.

I've got a British oven I can take along if any one wants to borrow it.
Bugger the competition - it's the brownie points I'm getting at home for baking I like! :D/
