Saw what I think/thought is an 8R....but something different. Underneath the priming cup, therre seems to be a pin/riser that protrudes downward. I cant find it in the RG...does this sound familiar? The tank lid looks to be an older version (no raised hex ) and it is chrome/nickel. Thoughts? Dave
Hi, that does sound familiar, yes. This model 8 could be a couple of options, the earlier has the small diameter priming cup and large diameter feed tube in a squarer-cornered tin, the later a small diameter cup and small diameter feed tube in the more common rounded corner tin. Archive Link Trojandog's Post a pic please, I do like 8Rs! If you need additional pics I can take photos of some of mine... Alec.
A lot of money is made of speculation though lol It sounds like a Optimus 8. Take a look at the gallery
It is at a junk shop and no tin...just burner and tank. I will go back in the am...did seem to have a small priming cup, but I have never seen this "peg" below before. My first thought was clone? Dave
Well I did manage to score what is left for parts and will try to post a pic later when the Mrs gets home. It seems to match this https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/27582 No tin...heatshield or key, but I will find a use all the same. Not sure if any of the clones are the same an an 8.... Dave
There are a number of variations of the 8. Color, stamping, handle placement, brass or nickel tank etc. I finally had to place them side by side and make a list of what I had. The rarest seem to be the ones with the embossed 8 case, after the square edged ones. Duane
Duane said... "there are so many variations that I had to put them side by side....".....lol I HATE YOU!! Im still not sure I have ever really seen one live..... Maybe one day...like you say...so many stoves...so little time. I hope to post a pick tomorrow when I get hold of the Mrs new phone. Our computer situation is a tad dire at the moment. Dave
Dave, That's a pic of my unfired 8, I also have a repainted one. About 12 or so of the earliest to the latest I believe of the 8/8R's. Duane
Dave, they have kinda grown on me. I started with a barely used late model 8R, thinking, that's all I need of these. Then, someones gotta post some dang pics of the cooler, older models. No consideration of our feelings. Duane
Hey, Duane, YOU are guilty, as charged, my friend, for enticing me, and others to seek out more and more of the different models of stoves!!! Thanks for being there for us all, to help our Stove Pox infection even get MORE deeply set in our bodies and minds!!! 8) 8) OH, I forgot to add: We ALL do that, for each other!! It's an official part of the Stovie's Creed!! 8) Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Others have infected me with other models, Duane is guilty of infecting me about the #8series. Ken in NC
Im reminded of the movie "The Jerk".....Steve is walking down the street saying... "...and this pen...thats all I need.....and this (?)....thats all I need...etc, etc,etc "
