The windscreen on this stove, the part that covers the tank, was beyond repair. I decided to make a new part. I first cut all but 1/2 inch off of the damaged part. I used a curved pair of tin snips, then straighten the edges with a hammer and a small block of wood, filed and sanded the edges. I made a template out of cardboard of the exact size and shape as original, traced that on a piece of heavier aluminum and cut that out. I used two small clamps to hold in place and drilled 5 3/32 holes and used same size rivets. I put masking tape on the side of the rivet heads to keep them from falling out while hammering the other ends. These rivets were aluminum and easy to hammer to make a strong and tight fit. This stove might not be a collectors delight, but it will sure work as a stove. Total price, about $1.25.
Stylish job. My compliments on using 'proper' and not 'pop' rivets. Nothing wrong with the latter for the right application but it's good to see someone applying the old skills and technology. John
@roby03 Maybe a Moderator like @shagratork can change the topic heading to say Optimus 99 Heat Shield Repair... Cheers Tony
Would it also protect from the wind that is coming from the tank direction? If yes, then it's also a windscreen.
To all Thanks for all the comments....and nice to see proper title. Here is a flame shot of the repaired stove. Many thanks, Roby
