I have had this well worn old girl kicking around for a couple of years now. The font is well worn, the Radius No 6, is just legible, as is the shooting star logo, as is Made in Sweden. Dont know whether the burner cap is original. It has the number 5 on the burner nut, and Radius Made in Sweden in the centre of the burner. Now, my question is : Can anybody date it from the font on the filler cap/pressure release valve. It says : A.BOL.RADIUS. It says Patent just below the A.B.R, and Made in Sweden. The combined filler cap/pressure release valve is different to the one Kerophile and I already have, as in the SRG. Dont know about Dr Peter Watchorn, there is insufficient details on his, to make any judgement.
Hi Ian, From the markings on the burner and pump cap it looks to be 1920/30s. What markings are on the base of the tank? If it contains the abbreviation Ltd after RADIUS it was made in 1938 or later, according to the work Stefan did on the Radius No.21 stoves. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Hi Ian, you noticed that both of the other Radius No.6 stoves we have posted in the Gallery have RADIUS Ltd. on the safety release valve/filler. That would indicate post 1938... Best Regards, Kerophile.
Hi Ian, Looking back to this old thread: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/6470 We have the following information on the safety pressure release/filler cap from Christer: It's the Swedish patent, and it comes from 1934, but was granted and published firstly in 1937. That would seem to tie the date of this Radius No.6 stove down to between 1937, when the safety pressure release patent was granted and 1938 when Radius changed to a Ltd. Company. Hi there, Got my hands on a Radius no6 with a silent burner instead of a roarer burner (as shown in the picture above). I now wonder if my stove has been modified or did the no 6 came with different burner options? If it has been modified, do you think the stove will be safe to use with the silent burner? @annfield Daniel As far as I can see, the photos above show the Radius with a silent burner (incomplete). In any case, as long as the silent burner is fitted properly it should work fine. Cheers Tony
I just located my Radius No. 6, which is clearly from the 1950s, having the later trivet and also the recessed filler hole and the later radius markings i have also encountered on several nos. 5. As George (Kerophile) found, it is a really superior stove, with perhaps the best regulating burner I've encountered. It ranges from simmer to very rapid boil with very little movement. As I fired it up i will post photos, including the instructions and box so that we have a complete example here. I'm very impressed with the Radius No. 3 ("Excellent" type silent) and the No. 6, which is one of the best stoves i have in my (too large) collection.
