I've been very interested in seeing the Polaris. Is it a good stove? It's thermal output numbers are certainly impressive. Optimus had a lot of problems after the buy out by Katadyn in 2008. I've heard they've gotten them ironed out, but a first hand report is always best. HJ

I had to verify this with an indoor test. I installed the Kovea in the Trangia 25 windscreen. Used the small UL HA pot. Filled it with 1liter 47F/8C water. Gas and canister temp 59F/15C. Roomtemp 72F/22C. Boiltime without lid was 5 minutes with white gas and 7m30s with canister fuel. Then meant to do another boiltest with inverted canister. However the flame and sound did not change in any way when the can was flipped. No bursts or hickups at all so I expect the same result. Reinstalled the burner in the Triangle and repeated the test with white gas. Boiltime + 30 sec so the trangia windscreen is effective. The Triangle is a favourite of mine
Your stove should have come with two jet nipples, a size 30 and the standard size 35 (there sometimes not stamped on very well so you have to look hard). Although as it says on the packaging the stove will run on anything, I prefer to use the standard size for running on unleaded petrol, white gas and propane/butane which works fine on my stoves, however if you wanted to experiment you could try the size 30 jet with kerosene or diesel and see if this runs any better for you. I hope I been a little help. One point to note the stoves I have worked on are the BRS cheaper versions of the Kovea but apart from the leg design are identical.
Hi @Michael 1804. If I understand you correct, there is a size 30 jet avaliable that could fit the Kovea Booster +1. I can not find anything like that at Kovea. Could you point me to a source? The BRS Booster has the same burner design as the Kovea, but I have come to belive it is not a Kovea build?
Looking at this thread https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/brs-8a-multi-fuel.16553/ I think I drop the kero-trail and leave the Kovea to run on white gas & canister. My hikes does not depend on critical fuel estimates and a few more minutes spendt on cooking a meal is just fine. The +1 holds up to the job it is made for, which is burning white gas and (inverted) canfuel. I find the Kovea Booster +1 to be thrustworthy and love this stove.
I will try and source one for you, but in the mean time you could try BRS suppliers, they are a very generic bunch so you might have to sift through a few websites, but they definitely produce the size 30 jets which I think will work well for you. Good luck my friend.
I spoke with Mr. Rowe via Facebook and asked him about his review. Since his review mentions fuels other than canister gas and Coleman type fuel, I specifically asked about his experience with paraffin/kerosene. He said that he had been told that the stove would work with fuels other than canister gas and Coleman type fuel and that he had not personally tried it. I'm not sure that approach constitutes a best practice in stove reviews. I tried paraffin/kerosene myself, and my experience is similar to @haknuts My experience is two-fold: 1. If I primed well and kept the valve to a moderate setting, I got OK (but not great) results. I got yellowing in the flames and some sooting on my pot, but I certainly could boil water. Simmering was not an option. Lower settings did not appear to supply enough thermal feedback to sustain vaporization. 2. At higher settings, I got un-vaporized paraffin/kerosene coming through the jet. I suspect what happened is that at higher flow rates, laminar flow results. In laminar flow, the flow along the walls of the generator flows at a slower rate than the flow in the center of the generator. The faster flow in the center doesn't receive enough heat to fully vaporize, and un-vaporized fuel is carried to the jet. As I understand it, one of the reasons that companies put things like a cable in their generators is to prevent such laminar flow (a cable can also serve as a conductor of heat and a means of cleaning). I would be willing to bet that a brass wire run through the generator of the Booster+1 would cause the flow to go from laminar flow to turbulent flow. The turbulence would stop the "express" flow through the center of the generator, said express flow being the means by which paraffin/kerosene flows fast enough to the jet to avoid vaporization. I just received an Edelrid Hexon. It is advertised as working with canister, white gas and kerosene. Still only one jet. It does have a steel wire running down the generator, so maybe this accounts for kerosene being an option for the Hexon and not for the Kovea Booster+1 and Brunton Lander. I'll be testing it out next week with the three stated fuels and mineral spirits as well.
I tested the Edelrid Hexon on Kerosene, Mineral Spirits and Coleman Fuel. They all worked well. Some yellow with the Kerosene Better with Mineral Spirits. No yellow with Coleman Fuel or Canister gas This with a Korean UFO silent cap on Coleman Fuel.
Am I right in assuming that the UFO silent cap is a single (more or less) universal cap? Anyone tested this aside those of QS or BD ?
