Flinson Port-a-Camp Kitchen 1949

Here is my Flinson Port-a-Camp Kitchen. Burner and fuel tank are the same as a Coleman 425. The stove has 4 canisters for coffee and anything else you want.
Everything packs into the Flinson for transport including the fuel tank and burners. Drawer with knives, forks and spoons for 4 .

Trevor, @konabill 's put together a good feature on the Flinson and I wonder if it would be possible to move it to the Stove Reference Gallery for best access in the future as reference material?

Ouch, that $39.95 price tag was no cheap set-up in 1949! Well thought out and handy design though. I would imagine the typical home handyman and Popular Mechanics reader of the day would have seen one and copied it in a well made plywood form for much less. I bet there are not many of these floating around, especially in that nice condition.

This label shows the patent # which was granted January 1949
Some of these have the "Patent Pending" version of this label which would indicate 1948 perhaps ????

That's certainly the logical sequence, I agree. '48 or a bit before.

 

Ok, here's the Flinson Decal from pre January 1949
The stoves themselves all appear identical and were being sold until 1958 ( some of the contents evolved but the fuel tank, burner and "box" never changed ) I believe it took 10 years to sell the quantity from the first production run....possibly due to the high retail price as MartyJ suggested.
There is also a propane version of this stove.

I have to admit, those are pretty cool, albeit a bit heavy. I do like the concept of all in ones.

 

Flinson ( center stove ) is the heaviest by far. The others are aluminum construction and weigh the same as a regular suitcase stove.....well, unless you load them with cast iron and coffee

 

Ok, an enabler friend of mine brought me the propane version of the Flinson Port-A-Camp for my collection. It uses 2 of the small Coleman propane cans.

Thought it might be interesting to see both models side-by-side.
The boxes are identical, the liquid fueled version has cut-outs in the box.

I’ll need to find the small parts ( Percolator, skillet, etc. )
1948 was a good year for camping.
