Here is another example of the Australian-made Lane's "Thermil" - a blue flame, kerosene wick stove. It was a free addition - along with two hurricane lanterns - to a Primus 210 I bought: It works on the centre-draft principle whereby air is drawn through the centre of the wick and flame; The wick and burner components: The trivet is clamped to the three upright legs with spring clips: The stove came in its original carton along with instructions and a wick trimmer: The stove was bought originally in 1951 for 24 shillings and ten pence. The pieces of paper in the carton also indicate that a suburban house block could be bought in Liverpool (an outer suburb of Sydney, Australia, now a major centre in its own right) for 25pounds! The trick to this stove is to allow the heating cones to get hot for 2 or three minutes - it really pumps out the heat, without any soot. ... and it passed the tea test. Cheers Tony
A Primus 210 is rightly viewed as a classic but that Thermil would have been the focus of my attention for a while, package filler to the Primus or not. I guess that's exactly what you've done by featuring it here, Tony. Glad you did. Stacks of information there, much appreciated. I nearly bought a Turm that was a dead ringer but the seller wanted too much. Jihn
Hello again Tony, I have and use a Lane heater/stove in my workshop and love it.I'm wondering if you can lead me to a replacement wick for me to purchase as mine is getting near the end, and a bit clogged. And if people wont me to post some before an after shots I will, I found and used as is but will clean up once I devolve into, thanks Alex
@Toad of the Cape The wicks sometimes appear on eBay. But, if you like, I will ask Sands in Melbourne if they have any. Best regards Tony
Thanks Tony for the offer re: Sands, I can ring them, maybe the size flat if you will I wont take the wick out until I have new one, thanks Alex
