I am fettling this stove, as I have identified a leak where the burner riser screws into the fount. I have counted the turns to unscrew, starting with the spindle over the "1" of the SVEA 123; 7.5 turns. To seal the leak, should I use red Loctite #3 to seal the leak, or turn tighter past the "1" ? Simon Turning past 1 might put the control spindle in the wrong place relative to the windshield. I would first try copper or nickel grease. If that doesn’t fix it, clean the threads with solvent to get rid of the grease and use a medium Loctite. Tony @SimonFoxxx
At the point where the spindle lines up with the 1, ie 7.5 turns, the taper joint does leak. I know this for two reasons. Low power flame on full, and a constant stream of bubbles on the hot water dunk test. I will need to seal with something, to get to performance back. I have an idea that red Loctite #3 is not resistant to fuel, so wiil need to check. Cheers Simon Foxxx
Before you use sealant ... Clean and check the condition of the threads on both the tank and the riser.
The thread is tapered, so I wonder if one could just turn it 1/3 of a turn tighter so it aligns with the screen's window. My thought is after a few wick changes, the hole or might enlarge a bit, or the threads might wear a bit, so they designed it with a tapered thread.
I would use a threadlocker/locktite product, no reason not to. It will hold up well to fuel and heat, you can find those specs on line. Do take a good looksee however,, a string of bubble reeks of something more than just leaking past threads.
