Here are some recent pictures of my Optimus patent from ( I believe ) 1930. I am missing a spanner and the fuel can and original pricker wires, but maybe they will turn up someday (I live in hope!) I did a very light restoration, mainly a clean and polish and new washers etc etc. I could really use a new flame ring as you can see in the photos it is a bit worse for wear and produces a wonky flame pattern. Interestingly the spirit cup has a little dimple that allows a kind of pilot light to assist ignition once the spirit has burned down. I also like the way the fuel transport cap that screws on to the burner riser when transporting screws onto the pump handle when the stove is assembled. The pump also seems to have a very long stroke for such a small stove, compared to my other stoves and the 2 pint Buflam I have. Hope you like the pictures
Someone more knowledgeable will sure jump in with more correct info, but I think the "Patent" stoves are older than 1930. Beautiful stove, the flame looks very bleu and not much affected by the slightly damaged flame ring. The 1pinters are one of the best looking stoves! Congrats on yours!
@Plantpot , WOW!! You did a great job on that 00 Patent stove! It's burning wonderfully, and, with your great photos, everything looks fantastic!! Well done! Thanks for sharing it with us, and congrats on your success with it!! Here's a link to my own 00 Record, so you can see the proper spirit tin, and get a glimpse of the original pricker. Optimus "Patent" 00 - 1930-1940? Again, well done, and thanks for sharing!! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
@Metropolitantrout @The Warrior Thank you guys, It came to me via Anstruther, a small coastal resort town in Fife, Scotland, situated on the north-shore of the Firth of Forth and 9 mi south-southeast of St Andrews. It looks like a nice little harbour town. I wish these things could talk!
Hi, Your Nice Patent Op.00 had a fuel tank marked "Stockholm" whereas later Patent Op.00 tanks had the Upplands Vasby marking. Staffan has said: "We know the sales office stayed downtown Stockholm until 1919 some 10 years after the factory in Upplands Väsby was completed. We also know that products continued to be marked "Stockholm" until sometime in the 1930's." from this thread: traveling-1-w-bun-feet.43613 this helps support a 1930s date for your stove. Best Regards. Kerophile.
Not to side track, but my great great grandfather came here from Scotland. I come from the Gunn Clan. I believe he was born in Glasgow, and lived in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire when he left there. Anyways, the 00 stoves are awesome. Perhaps my favorite stove out of my small collection.
Your ancestor might have come from Glasgow but the Clan Gunn originates from the Far North of Scotland, and before that Scandinavia Vikings: Clan Gunn - Wikipedia Best Regards, Kerophile.
Have known about that for years. Has been passed down over the generations. Have told my son as well.
Small world. My great grandfather was born and schooled in Sandford, next village down the road. Came to the US when he was 18. ....Arch
